Custom attachments & traction experiments: winter tires, DIY track grips, and finding the right material

Hi all,

We’ve been testing custom add-ons to improve Yarbo’s off-road capabilities.

Standard soft tracks and even winter tires weren’t giving us enough traction in soft, hilly terrain covered with nice flowering herbs. We mounted aluminum U-profiles as cleats, which solved the grip problem completely—traction is night and day!

However, we ran into three practical issues:

  1. Docking/Charging: The extra height causes alignment issues on the charging pad.

  2. Pavement: It rolls poorly and loudly over stones/pavement.

  3. Interference: We really want to move away from metals to avoid interfering with internal sensors and magnetic fields.

Are any of you working on custom track/wheel mods or attachments? Would love to know if anyone has had success with non-metallic solutions like molded polyurethane, reinforced rubber, or TPU!
