# Grinding auger motor bearings

Hi all. Today I received an “auger over current” error and heard some grinding.
I inspected the auger for a blockage or shear pins issues but found none.
I removed the module and could see aluminum fillings, metal debris and a slightly damaged belt. See pics.
Ticket opened but has anyone else had a similar issue?

Hello.
Sorry about your damaged belt. Unfortunately there have been a few incidences of damaged or broken belts as of late.
Opening the ticket was the right move. Yarbo will send you a replacement belt. You can also post the ticket number here so @Yarbo-Forum can help expedite the replacement process.
When you receive the replacement belt, take your time to ensure that all remnants from the old belt are removed from the assembly to avoid contamination.
Hopefully you’ll be back up and running very soon.

Could be a failing motor shaft, does your auger and impeller spin under load or does it surge? I think that’s how mine started going and the shaft was stripping out the keyway in the drive gear

I think that is what’s happening. The metal fillings and what looks like a metal band leads me to think it’s a shaft, gear or bearing. The wear to the belt is a side effect of a loose pulley.

There really isn’t an alignment that I am aware of, it’s just tensioned. Could be over tensioned maybe.

I’ve got same issues before. I assume that the metal debris are from the belt itself.

There is an alignment, I promise you there is. It may not be adjustable and if it isn’t it could be a bad set of motor brackets.

Would love to see those pictures too. Now I suspect tensioned too tight based on the other photo just posted here [Auger and impeller turn too slowly to throw snow - #2 by richard\_cook\_99](https://forum.yarbo.com/t/auger-and-impeller-turn-too-slowly-to-throw-snow/5081/2) Those screws look higher than my two which are more in the center whereas his are more towards the top of the slot.

Correct, I don’t believe it’s adjustable. But it is a timing belt. Break out that timing gun and fire away! 😂

When the belt on my new unit broke, I put the old one on, snugged up the screws and just pushed the motor up really hard while I tightened the screws. Thought about using the pry bar but figured I’d hear/notice slipping and readjust as necessary, it’s been fine so far.

Glad you received the new parts.
When you perform the replacement, please take a good set of pictures so we can all learn from the experience.
That said, stay warm! Like you said, it’s way too cold out there. Currently -10° actual temp at my house. I’m not going outside to do anything! 🙂
