NEED an add-on back bumper sensor that works with or without the trimmer mount!

I routinely have to manually park Yarbo in the garage so my wife can plug in the charge cable. Sometimes the work cell signal is crap, so I wind up crashing into my TroyBilt snow thrower. I need a back sensor bumper ASAP.

I believe the 2023 models had rear ultrasonic sensors on the rear, and then they decided to leave it off the newer model (2024). Odd choice as lots of rear impacts happen, and the core can climb up many obstacles. And now it rams stuff with the trimmer.

I have had reliability and confidence with the front bumper and gentle touch stopping. I want that on the back. Since I am manual driving over a junk cellular link through Smart Vision, there are delays. A bit better than NASA operations, but still precision. The delays in the video feed and my careful gentle blips of the app controller sometimes buffer and end up with Bumble humping my SnowZilla the TroyBilt snow blower.

Oh, and limiting the Cellular?!?! That’s a bad move too!

I’ve never understood the obsession that vision can be the only safeguard for any of these autonomous tech tools (not just Yarbo). I am a firm believer in redundancies. Bumpers and ultrasonics are cheap. I’ll pay the extra fee for the added safety. Want to add Lidar? I’m all in on that too.

Not making Lidar compatible with the Y for a retro fit is bonkers.

1000% agree, I can’t believe they did not make an upgrade path for this!!!

I would be happy with working ultrasonic sensors on the front as well as on the rear.

Vision is a great plan until you are a snow blower, or the object you’re moving toward is a featureless uniform color.

So you’re saying Frosty the snowman better watch out? :joy:

We’re sorry to hear about the issue, and thank you for sharing your feedback. I’ll make sure to pass your comments along to our product team for further consideration.

I’m with you guys for life… Rear sensors, but above all, Lidar :flexed_biceps:

Stereo cameras should be more than capable of providing all of these functions. Just need proper programming:sweat_smile:. Sensor fusion isn’t a bad idea but it’s more complicated as there are more failure points and decision trees when hardware fails or is functioning in a degraded manor. It’s a lot easier to say walk through it like a human would…a human level(and this would be the best human on earth at accomplishing the task) of capability is a lot easier for people to walk through and program. Now if you understand the process and realize, man I wish we had visibility into “x” and we could get that easily with sensor y then you can look into augmenting the sensor sweet. But most tasks on this planet being able to accomplishment it in the same manner that the best performing human on earth could perform it is more than sufficient.
