Well, yes theoretically you could use NetRTK and WiFi only, omitting the DC completely.
In practice, that type of configuration is likely going to lead to problems. Why? Because you are relying on short range WiFi for connectivity between Yarbo and the internet. Any dead spots or blips in coverage will be problematic for Yarbo while it’s out cutting your grass.
My strong recommendation is to use the DC. HaLow has a much longer range than WiFi. Mount the DC somewhere it has a good view of the sky all the way around it. And mount it in a way that it won’t ever wobble or sway. You can still use NetRTK, but the DC will continue to provide internet connectivity. That’s what I’m doing, and I am rather pleased with the results.
I agree with Robert. You can mount the DC anywhere if you use NetRTK, but it’s highly suggested to use it for HaLow. If you have a large property then it’s best to he at a high point on the property for the best range. But, WiFi and cellular are valid options for internet access on the core for app connection and NetRTK to work. Also keep in mind that even with a full outdoor mesh, sometimes IOT devices like Yarbo don’t handle the transition between nodes very well. So it’s something you’d have to test and do trial and error. Especially if you’re looking to spend money on a system to do this. Always have cellular enabled for backup. At least while it’s free.
My Core arrives today. I want to try the NetRTK first with HaLow providing internet access. I think I read one of your posts where you said your DC is inside by your router since it is only providing internet. With this configuration, do you just set up the DC normally and use the app to direct NetRTK?
The DC will provide the HaLow network connection, so you’ll want the DC in a place the Core and DC have good HaLow signal strength over your entire property. Mounting it higher is usually is better, but It doesn’t need a clear view of sky since it’s not using its GPS antenna to provide local positioning data.
Note the DC setup process may need the DC outside with a good GPS signal for the initial setup. Afterwards you can switch to NetRTK and move it wherever you want. If you don’t want to use the DC at all, switch to cellular or WiFi (if you have good coverage all over your property). Don’t use WiFi and HaLow together though.
