Trimmer questions

Feeling emboldened by my success with the blower yesterday I decided to take another swing at using the trimmer.

First, Bryan’s suggestions of lowering the trimmer RPM speed and increasing the frequency of the line feed has significantly improved how long the trimmer runs without a line feed error.

Second, I tried running some microplans to edge around trees that I created weeks or months ago. In each case they just ran into the tree and stopped so I had to delete and recreate the micro plans. Has anyone else encountered this? No map drift message at the dock.

Third, it just stopped and said something about a loose lock and to check the head. It disappeared before I could screen shot it. Any clues?

Thanks all,

Jeff

Were these memory paths? Did you start them out in an open area a good distance away from the trees? The Yarbo will approach the entrance and need space to maneuver. That is assuming it doesn’t try and run it backwards. The lock error I think refers to the trimmer module itself not being fully seated. Check your locking pins and make sure they are tight and fully seated. If it persists and they are firmly latched, open a ticket. Probably a software bug.

Hey Bryan,

Yes… they were memory paths, not micro paths. Apparently my personal “memory paths” aren’t working so well eh?

Yes, in spite of not remembering their names, they were setup with starts away from the tree, and in fact I’ve used them successfully in the past.

Thanks on the locking pin tip. I will check those again the next time its on. They are so difficult to push and pull on and off its hard to imagine them as loose. I’ve almost (but haven’t) resorted to using pliers to get them on and off in the past.

Best,

Jeff

Did it give you a line error? Check the head wire. If so, it’s a known issue.

Hi Gabriele,

Actually, in this case it did not. It used to give me one every few feet until I took Bryan’s advice and:

  1. Used a manual weedwacker to get the really heavy Florida weeds cut
  2. Lower the RPMs of the trimmer
  3. Increase trimmer line feed frequency
  4. Slow the speed of the core when trimming

Now the line error only happens occasionally

Thanks for the insight on the issue in any event.

Jeff

I left mine at the fastest. Wondering if that might help get you to no line feed errors. Slowing it down does make sense too though.

I figured fast rpm helped get the line to feed.

My issue was that the line would snap when it hit my weeds. The lower speed seems to allow the line to stay intact and most weeds still are getting cut. Palmetto, not so much. Best to dig them out, pull them with a chain and big truck or use a chain saw.

You guys must have big weeds

Oh well that explains it. Palmetto is like a tree LOL.

Hi there, regarding Yarbo running into obstacles while following the Memory Path, does the issue still occur after you recreate these paths? If so, please submit a support ticket for this issue so our team can further investigate.

For the loose lock issue, please first follow Bryan’s suggestion and check the locking pins to make sure the module is properly secured. If the issue continues to occur, please keep us updated with more details, and we’ll help investigate the root cause.

Thank you Yarbo-Forum. No, once I remap the memory path it’s fine. It just seems to have gotten off by a couple centimeters since I last used it. So I just deleted and restarted. As far as the lock issue goes, I have no idea, but I have taken the trimmer off and put it back on and it seems to be operating OK at the moment.

Thank you again

Jeff

So I may owe non-Floridians a bit of an explanation. The photos below all include my dog for a sizing reference.

The small Palmetto I consider a weed and if nobody wants to go around digging them up we historically have handled with a weed wacker.

The medium sized ones need to be dug up and or pulled out with a chain and truck.

The large ones we call cabbage palms and tell tourists and northern transplants (like me 30 years ago) that they are beautiful and tropical and you should pay more to be close to them.

Incidentally, the lean to the right was caused by hurricane Ian. They used to be pretty much straight up and down prior to that.

So the lock issue just occurred again. I have taken pictures and attached below. I do t see or feel anything loose. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

Remove and reinstall the trimmer head, it could be partially not attached perfectly.

Um….

Talk to me like I’m 5. What does that mean?

The trimmer was assembled when I received it so I’ve never done anything to it other than put new line in it.

Where the line it underneath, the round thing that spins, that is the head. The spool of line is inside it. The head is held on by 2 push in clips that you can see when looking at it. Push them both in a wiggle and the head will come off. Push back on to reattach.

Thank you. Will do.

In retrospect, I should’ve said talk to me like I’m senile because that is closer to my reality.

:joy:

I get it, I am not too far behind, lol. I am still teaching my father how to use his Lymow.

You probably want to power down and remove the trimmer from the core, as it is not something too easy to get to.

So, i’m not sure if I’m not following directions correctly or if our trimmers are slightly different. I’ve taken the cap off and removed the spool of line and I don’t see anything that resembles two push tabs inside. The little metal thing that I assume is responsible for feeding the line is in there and it is completely limp. I would’ve thought it was spring loaded or something.
