sorry if this may have been discussed already. Why does the mower have to get to the end of a pass and have to do a 7 point turn to face forward again to make another pass. This tears up the lawn and takes a really long time especially in tighter spaces or anything that isn’t a big square acreage. Make one pass forward, second pass in reverse, 3rd forward and so on…never turning around just adjusting slightly for a 4,8 inch overlap. 3 times faster saving battery, time and wear on the lawn. This seems obvious so am assuming it’s already been discussed and there is a good reason for NOT doing this mapping, turning logic?
This is something I’ve asked for recently too. I suspect the hesitation for this is there isn’t a rear bumper, so there is some potential for collision and other issues. But, I would gladly take some limitations to have this feature and assume some risk to run it, personally.
There is a port on the back end, they could easily add a rear bumper.
Or use that great AI vision we hear about, lol.
The 23’s got that upgrade with ultrasonics on the rear bumper too. My vote is for the leaf blower to be rear mounted, it’s got higher up cameras and a bumper. Would be perfect.

Alternating between forward and reverse passes could certainly reduce turning time, improve efficiency, and minimize wear on the lawn in some scenarios, especially in tighter or irregularly shaped areas.
At the same time, changes like this also need to consider factors such as navigation reliability, obstacle detection, and overall operational safety, so there are several aspects that need to be evaluated before implementing this type of mowing logic.

The B1 already runs in reverse while blowing without a bumper so not sure what the reservation is for the mowers?
The code already exists and is in operation right now. I ran it on the blower yesterday.
Good point. Maybe spinning blades of death? I have to leave the finger guards on because I don’t trust myself to resist the urge to shove my fingers under there.

I might actually prefer alternate row smooth u-turns instead of forward / backward. The front grass comb thing would hang up on taller grass and roots.
This is also my first preference, but the reverse seems like an easy option to enable.
Also my preference. This would speed things up and be easier on the turf.
It’d also go a long way toward handling steep inclines.
