Front camera snow covered

Hi all. Has anyone come up with a solution to the front camera getting snow covered? Sprays and waxes don’t work.

I could 3d print something but I don’t want to reinvent the wheel if someone has already done it.

The cameras are heated. If it has snow collecting on the lenses you probably want to open a ticket.

I guess the question would be, is it covered but melted with an air gap. This scenario does happen. But if it doesn’t melt at all, that’s definitely an issue.

This happens all the time. The camera is technically clear but the snow and ice just build up around it so the camera becomes useless anyway.

Yeah short of having a wiper, which poses its own problems, I don’t know that the problem can be fully solved. At some point, the snow builds up fully covering the RTK antennas too. You have to go knock it all off periodically. Part of maintenance.

Yea, I’ve been observing the same thing with my cameras. No snow buildup (thanks heaters) but water drops really make the cameras ineffective at times. Makes me question how effective the object recognition can ever be on the snowblower.

I think wipers at least on the front snowblower cameras would be a good improvement for Yarbo. One of my “other brand” robot mowers has a wiper for its cameras, so it’s not an out of the question kind of thing.

Any fine snow for me that blows back at S1 becomes water droplets on the lens (can’t see) then ice crust air gap.

@rgloverii :+1:t3:

Interesting about the ice crust. I haven’t noticed that myself yet. I guess I should be thankful that we’re not getting the extreme weather you get!

Starts like this. This is the melted fine snow and just water now.

Everything is temperature dependent for that. I have been from 32 to -35 and it hasn’t been perfect but I really can’t ask for anything better all around I don’t think.

Do what I do. Watch it on the TV from the security camera so you can really see what it’s doing. This way you can also watch the people who stop to watch and take pictures of it. And freak out the people walking by by talking to them.

Could use an air blast,

So I made a prototype deflector to prevent snow from being thrown up in front of the camera. It is curved on the inside to match the auger.

Looks like it’s working!

I think it does. Just a little refinement needed. I will make the CAD file available when it’s done.

Awesome idea! Thanks for coming up with it!

Yarbo is gonna lead me to buying a 3D printer.
:upside_down_face:

Printers are very handy

Just do it!

I need to get mine upgraded with linear rails and a flexible print bed…the creality glass bed doesn’t work well anymore, probably from me being too impatient with the putty knife:sweat_smile::sweat_smile::sweat_smile:
