Snow in upstate NY? Can Yarbo handle it?

Lol. I like the sound of that

Update. Wet, sticky snow with cold high winds, froze snow in the shute solid and coated the auger/ impeller blades. Obviously 3 coats of ceramic coating, and running at max speeds was not enough.

Solution. I liberally sprayed silicon over the shute, auger and impeller. Much better.

What kind of longevity do you think you’ll get out of silicon?

Do you think you’ll have to cost it often?

I don’t know. I suspect it will be snow conditions specific.

I have heard of people using WD40 on ice machines to impede snow build up. Live and learn I guess.

My understanding is it’s good between runs. You will most likely have to reapply frequently and as needed.

I stopped using ceramic coating and switched back to silicone spray. I need to reapply about every 2 - 4 outings depending on conditions. It takes about 10 seconds and works better then ceramic coating in my opinion.

You convinced me to get some to have on hand. Can’t hurt and is simple enough to apply.

I would suggest you wear a mask. Even though I sprayed it in a well ventilated garage, I’m sure I also inhaled some. Just a word of caution between old men

I guess both you and your Yarbo are ready to snow blow. :joy:

Do you need special conditions to apply? Most sprays need dry/warm(ish) conditions to work and once winter starts, those are gone.

I used a weed sprayer filled with hot water to clean. Needed little and worked surprisingly well. Used an electric leaf blower to get Yarbo mostly dry then applied silicon spray.

That’s a good point. I keep all my equipment in a a semi heated garage so I never had to consider that. I could see that being an issue if left outside.

So today I wanted to see how Yarbo would handle very very wet snow. Plow type snow conditions but using the snowblower. Total fail but just a test.

I think I will try printing a plow attachment. I doubt it will be strong enough but wtf.

@laudav1285 I wasn’t going to order the plow but I did and I think it was a good decision. Just arrived today.

How long did it take to arrive?

Like a week-ish to MI. Shipped from CA.

Might be a little different to Canada. I guess it would depend if they have it in stock locally.

Read the whole thread. I do the apron trick with its leaf blower (its AI is good , but some areas need more love).

The backing up into the snow on the side. Im going to map the driveway at least twice the second one maybe a foot inside so if I get the build up. I’ll just run the smaller area. I always blew about 6-12” on the grass for the melt refreeze trick Mr Winter likes.

Thanks for the Silicon. My gas blower was kept inside.

My snow blower attachment is still in the box, so I’m a newbie, but it’s kicking my leaves and grass 1.5 acres of grass surrounded my trees. I didn’t mine the hobby when it was a bit warmer, but on a sunning calm day it never gets to cold (Marine and skier in my MUCH younger days)

NoGo zones can be toggled on and off at least for the leafs.

Thanks for the great theard :+1:

Next to read about sidewalks only 5 yards, but was the toughest for my beast of a gas power tosser.

Just remember - she’s a chonker with that snow blower attached, 200+.

When it gets stuck, I use the long end of an old ratchet strap to haul it back into a traction area. If you do it right, you’ll still have a free hand to drive the thing with the app, while you drag.

Bonus points if you can use a team of sled dogs for that purpose.
