Work area could not be planned

Is there any way to get feedback/diagnostics on are planning problems. I setup a few areas. One is the entire yard. Additional areas break the yard into the front and back. I tried setting up a schedule to cut the front only. The mower started at the scheduled time but never got past planning. I stopped the job after an hour and tried starting manually. Again, could not get the area past planning. Started the plan for the whole yard and it started fairly quickly. I may remap the area for the front. Anyone have similar issues?

@jlkrupka - I’ve heard others having a similar problem. Breaking the massive Area up into smaller Areas helped. Try this – you said you have a massive Area and a few smaller ones. Can you create a Work Plan with fewer Areas in it or just the smaller ones and try that? Does it work?

If that works, you can Edit Area to make your massive Area smaller, BUT it has the downside of letting you keep one piece at a time if you chop it up :frowning: so you will have to do a little remapping.

I could do my lot as a massive Area at just under an acre or so of mowing space, but I’ll be doing five or six smaller Areas with a few Pathways, maybe a few Deadends, which is how I consider it when I mow it with the riding mower and push mower, same thing. I think that will be more flexible if I need to remap anything, schedule stuff, whatever. And hopefully when it’s calculating the Work Plan – you’ll need to let me know how yours does!

It was actually the smaller area that gave me problems this morning. What is unique to the area is that the house and driveway divides the area. I did build in a couple of passes between the areas. I may look at either breaking the front into two area so they have different pathways and create a plan for both front areas or include a section of driveway in the area that the mower can traverse. River stone lines part of the driveway otherwise I would make most of the driveway part of the area.
Not worried about remapping as my property is relatively small in comparison to many I am seeing (100,000 sq ft rectangle (200x500)). I plan on redoing areas when I can put poles in the property markers to use them as a guide. I anticipate tinkering with work areas throughout the summer.
My hope is to have schedules and work plans setup that I am confident can run when I am not home later in summer.

Thanks for sharing your experience! After checking with our development team, we can confirm that this issue will be addressed in the firmware update 3.8.0.

From your map, it looks like there are two pathways connecting the docking station to your work areas. You might want to delete the shorter path that leads to the front yard, then run a test to see if the mower can successfully start the work plan.

We hope this helps! Let us know how it goes, and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or need further assistance.
