Area Mapping, Anti overlapping, auto aligning

Hello, with it being a known issue when areas overlap, it would be really beneficial to just have the software make these corrections automatically. When an overlap of areas occurs just allow the areas to align instead of overlap. Obviously there is no need to mow a small section twice, you also don’t want to worry about missing a small section by avoiding overlap. I also have large enough areas that Yarbo can’t get it all done in one day so it must be sectioned accordingly without really distinct break up points.

As there is one map, such a feature would need to take into account Areas and Pathways for the snowblower.

Many of my snowblower Areas are on grass, much smaller, and are now completely overlapped by the mowing Areas, but I still need them come winter. Having the software “merge” them automatically would do away with the Areas I set up to use my snowblower.

I believe there has been a request out there to merge Areas (Edit Area only do a join instead of a split) and/or to mow multiple Areas as one larger virtual Area so the mowing lines all line up.

I know this has been requested but there needs to be separate maps for the different modules.

My snowblower configuration is no longer fully editable, mostly due to the behavior of Pathways started or ended in overlaps being largely undefined (making it inconsistent, in my experience anyway).

I actually have no idea if my snowblower configuration will still work. The way I left it at the end of the season was fully working, but I may have to change one Pathway, which is not possible with my mowing Areas now sitting on top.

The Yarbo team was considering two things to help:

  • Defining Pathway start point and end point behavior in overlapped Areas to connect whatever is required to navigate. If B & C overlap, a Pathway from A to the overlap would work if C was to be mowed or if B needed a visit from the snowblower – or whatever. So if you have a Pathway endpoint, it’ll work with whatever Area it touches.
  • Some method of “filtering.” This was unclear, but it sounded like adding tags to mapped items and then being able to filter them and view, edit, and use them as you would separate maps.

I’m not able to wrap my head around this enough to know if those two enhancements would solve the multiple-module single map issue, but I think they would help.

I have also heard that in the future Area overlaps may be navigable, as if the overlap was a Pathway.

I have no recent updates or details of any of these.

Co-founder Ken K. has stated several times that there is something exciting coming for mapping navigation. It sounds like whatever it is would deal with these situations, but I have no details or timeframe.

There are justifiable reasons to have an overlap for some. I’d say it would be nice to have the option to merge, but also have the option to overlap.

Yes this would be helpful in multiple situations as some sections of the same lawn could do better with settings for bumpier terrain without sacrificing the tight cut that is possible for the rest of that larger zone. Having the lines continue keeps it looking good.
