I just got my 4-1 but as we know the Pro head is not shipping until August (hopefully). Looking for suggestions on how to map. I would like to use the leaf blower now to clean up the driveway, should I map the driveway with the snow blower on and then I can use the leaf blower to clean the driveway and have that mapping done for both the winter and summer leaf blower cleanup? Also can I map the yard in preparation for the mower with the leaf blower or ???
Hi Mike. It is best to make maps with the module on which you will use so that it fills it as it should in corners. But yes you can make a map for the snow blower and then also use it for the blower. Regarding the mower, it fills a lot in relation to the blower. But you can edit the map when you receive it for the mower in the corner so that it fits for the mower when you receive it so it doesn’t run into anything.
Good point about considering mapping a driveway for the snowblower and leafblower.
I don’t know how the leafblower works – I don’t have one. My GUESS is you tell it which direction to blow the leaves (which Area boundary or boundaries), and it does a parallel pattern to make it happen. Snowblower you tell it where to throw the snow (which Area boundaries – can be all the way around). So perhaps using the SAME Area for both will be OK. I just don’t know what happens with the leafblower if you have odd-shaped parts like the driveway opening (mine looks like a trumpet). I’d like to think it wouldn’t matter – same Area, you set what settings you need per module, and Yarbo does the right thing with whatever module.
I would map the single Area with the snowblower, though, as you may not want the bucket running into things or sticking out into the road. The leafblower is smaller.
Overlapping Areas is another possibility – one Area for one module, another Area for another. There is – currently – an issue where Pathways become unworkable in overlapped Areas. If you delete a working Pathway in an overlapped Area, you may not be able to re-create it. (If you snowblow across your property and have a mower, you’ll run into this – same if you create an Area on top of another in your driveway for the 2 different modules.) Yarbo has some thoughts about a solution for that, but I don’t have an update. I would recommend mapping each Area in an overlap so there is a small section outside the overlap to hook Pathways to.
In theory, if they do their job well, they should be able to differentiate between the modules and their size, so I don’t think they’ll have to redo a map each time (Tesla has the same software for all their cars) and yet they manage to park correctly lol! And no, don’t say what I didn’t say!!! It works lol!
They can account for the module sizes but it is still recommended to map with the module you intend to use that area for predominantly. The leaf blower module can totally use an area mapped by the snow blower or the mower as an example. Same with the SAM. I did map my back yard with the SAM and my mower module worked flawlessly with it.
Also, it’s recommended to map with the right antenna riding the boundary. That is right as you face the rear of the core. This keeps the primary antenna closest to the inside of the area and away from walls, fences, and other obstructions that could affect GPS reception. Will it still work if you don’t, yep, sure will. But it will execute the plan with the left antenna closest to the inside of the area always.
@ken.w.gregory - Settings based on module are by design. The SAM doesn’t mow, so the Pathways as seen by the SAM won’t have blade height. But I would have thought it would have vehicle detection on the Pathway like the mower does, not sure if the snowblower has that.
No vision zone made no difference. There is a setting in Safety Setting called Obstacle Avoidance Mode. Switching that off allowed Yarbo to go through the gate.
