Auger and impeller turn too slowly to throw snow

@Yarbo-Forum Ticket 146079 has been escalated to R&D team. Couldn’t handle 2 inches of light snow. Been out of service for two weeks. Can you please check on this?

Hello DCGero, I realize that is will not help with your ticket status but I just discovered today that the impeller drive belt on the snowblower module for my unit completely disintegrated. You can check this by removing the module and tilling the unit up to expose the drive belt. As you can see in photo there is no belt that connect the electric motor to the impeller. You may find that your belt show premature wear.

@richard_cook_99 wow, where is your belt? it’s completely gone and seems to be never been there. My case is here with pictures. AUPDATE: Root cause found — timing belt is severely worn/shredded (photos attached)

Yup…. disintegrated, just fragment in the core. So did they send you a new belt? If so how long to get it?

Really sorry for the delayed response. Since your case has been escalated to our R&D team for further investigation, it does take a bit more time before we can reach a clear conclusion.

I’ve asked our field service engineer to follow up on your case, and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more information. We kindly appreciate your patience in the meantime, and thank you for your understanding.

Just an update on my situation. The help desk ask me to inspect the short pulley on the motor and I discovered the pulley to be encapsulated in steel cable(see photos). So they are sending me a new pulley and cable 7-10 day delay to receive parts. You can inspect the short pulley by removing all the “easy to get to” 3mm screws that secure the motor. LOOSEN DON’T REMOVE the hidden screw in the corner. The motor mount has a slot in it so you can just slide to motor out to expose the pulley.

WOW! That belt failure is the definition of catastrophic.

@Yarbo-Forum The first time the snowblower plugged up, I inspected the belt and thought it looked ok. The second time, it made a loud grinding sound, so I submitted a ticket. I tried it a day later and heard no grinding, but the auger turned slowly. I tried it a few days later. The motor ran but nothing moved. The shear pins were ok, so I looked at the belt again. Many teeth are broken off. Added this information to the ticket.

Thanks for the update! That helps explain what was happening—hopefully support can get it resolved quickly.

I received the new belt and pulley yesterday, 2/3.

I’ve seen gray-ish belts on the post (including mine). This black color belt is new to me..

I believe that belt used to be grey as well.

That is correct. It started light grey and turned black probably because it wore down the edge guide of the small pulley. I think the large and small pulleys are not aligned in the exact same plane. This forces the belt to rub against the edge of the small pulley. When the belt wears down to the steel wires, the wires snag on the pulley and the belt gets ripped apart.

This is exactly what seems to be happening to my snowblower.

Here’s the thread where I have been chronicling the events:

Yeah… the snowblower’s only job is throwing snow. If the belt/pulley alignment (or motor/gear) is causing the auger/impeller to run slow (or fail), then it basically can’t do what it’s supposed to—sometimes even in light snow. This really needs a permanent fix, not just repeated belt replacements. Hoping Yarbo addresses the root cause, not just the belt or pulley.
