I certainly wasn’t expecting to see that!

The windy storms was were I really noticed the build up, even on the side cameras, https://photos.app.goo.gl/LNoRBmYrcmn1gFQK7
This is why I don’t think Yarbo can ever have reliable vehicle and obstacle detection for the snowblower module.
Agreed but it is entertaining
My kids say it needs ears.
Exactly - this is an extremely hard thing to do without all kinds of sensors working in collaboration and some AI to interpret it all. Never mind that all those sensors are blinded by blowing and falling snow. And how can you distinguish between a snow bank and a snow covered vehicle?
If Tesla can’t do obstacle avoidance, in a snowstorm with Full self driving, I doubt Yarbo ever will.
Yup definitely needs some localized Machine Learning and data capture to be ultra reliable. The no-go zones are good enough for me for now, I’d rather work on getting the work plans working😅
Our three Teslas do pretty good with FSD in the snow, but I’ll admit snowy/icy conditions are the one scenario where I tend to drive manually these days. But that’s more out of an abundance of caution.
That’s basically the thing - Yarbo would need a lot of data and a lot of training to accurately and reliably identify obstacles when the vision is obscured. And unfortunately I don’t think they have the expertise nor the manpower to devote to that effort.
A partnership with xAI could be beneficial ![]()
I love my FSD! It is great in most conditions. I have read that Tesla is revisiting enhanced radar because vision only cannot handle all weather conditions.
There’s a reason all other manufacturers use multiple sensors. Tesla doubling down on vision alone was a bad choice. Glad to hear they are rethinking this.
Hmm. I should do some testing. My Model S and Model X have radar, but my daughter’s Model Y does not. Would be interesting to see if there’s any difference in driving behavior in snowy conditions where vision is occluded.
Mine has radar as well but I think the new one will be more powerful.
Pretty sure they disabled it in an update a while ago, there were reports of them being physically removed during service visits too. We drive through snowstorms with 2 eyes, often without 20/20 vision. If implemented correctly I don’t see any issue with them doing it without major problems. Radar and lidar are also affected by weather and require complex computations and redundant sensors for reliability, etc, etc. sensor fusion is very difficult, and computationally intense, especially for Ai training that’s a lot of data. Can it be done, sure but I’d rather have a vision only car that’s 2/3rds-1/2 the cost and doesn’t require immense amounts of power to simply be aware of it’s surroundings with a 1% improvement.
Your little tent doesn’t cause any GPS issues? Planning to try that in the summer.
I really need to get my 3d printer running. Have to keep up. ![]()
Watched a Tesla Taxi in San Fran a year ago pull up to a 4-way stop. There were 3 other vehicles already at there stop signs. Tesla pulled up made a brief full stop then drove ahead cutting off the other 3 that should have gone first. Really added comfort to my belief in their tech. LOL
I’ll be honest, I think FSD is wonderful. It still amazes me sometimes, and I’ve been using it since the first betas way back when.
What’s even more impressive is that my wife is comfortable enough to use it now. I didn’t think that would ever happen. She doesn’t even like using normal cruise control! ![]()
Lol. The tent works well and doesn’t interfere with my GPS. Automatically turning off the blower prior to entering the charging station/tent has been flawless.
How did you manage to get her to do that. If I’m out of town mine calls me and asks me to send Jack out. ![]()
