I’ve got a fairly wooded area and doing my initial mapping was almost impossible. Certain areas always seemed to drop GPS under a tree or what not. It would ask to drive back to the last spot that had GPS but not resume.
To try and work around it I ended up making a lot of smaller zones until I was able to complete something basic. Issue now is that I have 8 zones and really only want 1 (and I’m not done mapping yet).
Is there a way that I can select area zones and just merge them? If not, sure would be a nice feature so that things can be managed more easily.
Currently, we do not have a feature to merge zones, but we truly appreciate your feedback. We will pass along your suggestion to our product department for future consideration.
In the meantime, if you encounter any other mapping issues or need assistance, please feel free to reach out.
Not only merging areas would be useful but also dividing areas.
In some other scenarios, it’s easier to map an entire area. Subdividing after the fact, to optimize some areas over others, or prioritize work plans, etc.
The existing split feature is nice but it only allows you to pick either one area or the other, not both.
Please consider merging and splitting areas! Thanks.
As an interim step I’d be happy with something that would let you specifically pick your intention for that matter. Part of the reason I created multiple zones was my attempt to expand the zone often resulted in selecting something and having to pick both. But merging or subdividing from the app without having to go back over things would be extremely useful.
I like the manual split area feature in the app and I have used it a lot. But one of my areas is tricky and I made the split in the wrong spot. It would be great to join them together again so I can split it in a better spot. Driving to join is hard especially when you are between a retaining wall and a curb drop off.
Merging/joining any overlapping areas should be trivial since you already have the code to manually split. Another great addition would be complex internal edits. I know you can just add to boundaries but working inside an existing boundary to draw more complex shapes to be removed from the map would be great. Essentially the same thing you can do by driving but with your finger.
Our product team conducts comprehensive evaluations of all feature requests. At this stage, this feature is not yet on the priority list due to limited development resources.
We kindly ask for your understanding, and we will continue to revisit and reassess the feature requestin the future.
As software developer with many years in the business, reading this :
due to limited development resources
makes me sad.
You are, at the heart of it, a software company. The hardware does nothing without well written software. The emphasis in staffing should be on the software/firmware side. The hardware dev can move slower if needed. If you didn’t create the upcoming M hardware platform and instead implemented more of the user features and requests like these, the Y series would sell so well you wouldn’t need to make a another hardware version.
