Hello dear Yarbo community
Should the use of SmartView be possible during the mowing process? I cannot activate the function while mowing? Or has the use in Europe embedded for data protection reasons?
Smart Vision is currently not available while a Work Plan is running.
Yarbo has been testing allowing you to view the front camera when the module is doing work. Yarbo wants to make certain that the camera use does not take bandwidth away from communications or processing tasks, such as interpreting objects for Obstacle Avoidance.
I’d rather see the CPU cycles dedicated to whatever it takes to make the Yarbo more autonomous, such as obstacle detection, VIO, and so on.
This supports my hunch that the CPU in Yarbo is quite under-powered.
Lack of compute power would explain why many other things are not working well like route calculation and obstacle detection .
For the price of Yarbo a reasonable person would assume there would be plenty of compute, ram and storage on-board for the current firmware and future features to be added.
I agree 100%. I’d bet they underestimated the compute requirements when designing the board. Doesn’t bode well.
I’m told it’s more of a bandwidth and video compression concern. They don’t want to chance affecting the latency of the RTCM data. I appreciate that and their being cautious about that.
I agree, let’s make it reliable.
At least let us use the cameras when the yarbo is in a suspended state during the job. Would be great to navigate the rover out of a situation or move it to clear GPS connection issues without having to be home to monitor the movements. Would also be great if we could toggle the cameras (even one at a time) in the remote control pane so we don’t have to jump all over the app for various control scenarios.
You can use them when the plan is paused. You just have to back out of the screen once and then you can go into settings.
Hmm, I’ll have to give it try again I guess, I tested it a while back and got an error about not being available while on 4G. It wasn’t on 4G at the time (never is), so I assumed it was just another poor state error. Next time it gets stuck I’ll give it a go.
Yes. It is available if the plan is suspended or paused. I’ve used to get off a tree root while I was at work which was very convenient. Once it’s moved, just continue the plan. It’ll pick up where it left off.
Yes it absolutely won’t work when the rover is on cellular and not HaLow or WiFi. Sometimes if you go too quickly when opening the app it will throw a cellular error for smart vision until it wakes up and realizes it’s on HaLow.
@bryan.wheeler stop the saying that naughty word “WiFi” and Rover in the same sentence
You don’t know how many times I cringe when typing that in my responses and usually caveat it immediately to not use it. It is supported and some users feel compelled to use it. For smart vision when on cellular it is a viable alternative to connect, do the remote rescue, forget it and resume.
