I’m a technology and IT nerd by trade. I’m also having a lot of fun nerding out with Yarbo. The other day I had to pause Buzz LightYar at 60% because of a late run cycle. I needed to bring him into the garage so I can go to bed. My dock is not outside because of feral neighbor kids messing around where they shouldn’t be (#SpectatorParentingFail). I keep him in the garage and send him out for his tasks as needed.
The wife IMs me at work and asks if I could send Buzz out to finish the yard. He should finish by the time I get home. So I tell her to open the garage and stand by. My co-worker buddy (who is also a Yarbo nerd) and I get Buzz ready for another mission. I’m 8 miles away and restart him remotely for the firmware upgrade. Then I use smart vision to drive him out, around my cars, into the work zone down the hill, and resume the last mow. Yarbo is on the move doing great. Wife is watching in amazement. By the time I got home and finished dinner, Buzz knocked out the remainder of the back yard. Then I do the same smart vision (from the couch in my PJs) to drive him to the next work zone and start him up while the wife watches. Buzz went off to mow the next zone and the wife, (amazed) says, “So, are you happy with your investment?” I smiled and said “Absolutely!”
This stuff is so cool and definitely scratches the nerd itch. Looking forward to the pro mower for the farm property next. I just spent 2 full days mowing half of it with a 42” riding mower and I’m tired of doing that. I see great things on the horizon.
I was recently on an Alaskan cruise and it was super nerdy fun using Yarbo to check on my property (Smart Vision) while we were in the middle of the ocean.
I’m sure my wife wanted to roll her eyes while I was playing with Yarbo, but she didn’t let on.
I do this a lot no matter where I am, just because I can. I love it when I catch someone walking up the sidewalk or something unexpected. I also love sitting at the office, starting up a work plan and then telling co-workers that I am exhausted. They often look puzzled and ask why. From mowing the lawn all day…. I try this with the wife too. The Co-Workers at least find it funny.
For sure! I geek out over this stuff. The pool cleaning bot, the house vac bot, and Yarbo were all running at once. I was watching the dance on the PTZ cams through Home Assistant on my 3rd monitor from work! The universe was in harmony
My family was recently talking about how many robots or robotic devices we have, and how they’re integrated into our daily lives.
Lawn robots, vacuum/mopping robots, irrigation robots, pool cleaning robots, indoor security robots, self driving cars (robots), etc. my household is swarming with robots… And I love it.
Right now, Yarbo is out mowing a big area in the back, and a Luba 2 is mowing my main front yard. And I can watch over the house while I’m at work using my Amazon Astro robots.
Maybe I’ll start up the Roborock and mop the floor so I can say another robot is active… lol
It sounds like you’re in the market for remote access garage door opening, then you don’t need to have anyone else open the door. I’m also a technology and IT nerd by trade (from birth really). A lot of options exist no matter the platform you choose.
That garage door does not have an opener yet. Once it does, Home Assistant on a Shelly relay with the existing camera in the garage will take care of it.
Great minds think alike
Because Yarbo doesn’t allow integrations, yet, I’m thinking of a Home Assistant automation when the Yarbo is recognized by a camera in a certain area, after crossing a line in a certain direction, to open our gate and leave it open. Then leaving it open until the opposite happens, indicating he has returned.
I’m looking at gate controls for this now but It’s not a high priority at the moment.
