Unread messages?

I’m probably missing something obvious, but how do I see all unread messages (threads, not DMs)? And how do I mark everything as read?

I’m used to being able to catch up on forum topics by looking through unread message, but I don’t see that here.

You’re not missing anything — great question!

To view all unread topics, click on the “Unread” tab in the top menu. This tab displays topics you’re tracking or watching that have new replies.

By default, a topic will be marked as unread if you:

  • Created the topic
  • Replied to it
  • Read it for more than 5 minutes

Or if you’ve manually set the topic to Tracked or Watched using the :bell: icon.

Note: If there are no unread topics, the “Unread” tab will not appear in the top menu.

Tip:
To ensure new topics appear as unread until you’ve viewed them, go to your user preferences and set:

  • “Automatically track topics I enter” → “immediately”
  • “Consider topics new when…” → “I haven’t viewed them yet”

This will make it easier to spot and follow new discussions.

To mark all topics as read, simply click the “Dismiss” button.

Thank you for the clarification. This is different from my experience in other forums, where I have the ability to view all posts that have an unread comment. Is there a way to enable something like that? The alternative is to scroll through each sub section looking for items of interest. There is a lot going on, and as a newb, trying to digest new info is helpful to learning how to get the most out of it.

I simulate that by going to Topics, Latest, then sorting by Activity.
