Tricky corners and narrow passages that are hard to reach? :herb:

Draw Deadends and let Yarbo take care of them.

Deadend for Lawn Mower/Lawn Mower Pro | Yarbo Wiki

Yep, Deadends and Sidewalks to get at tight spaces and corners.

Some thoughts:

  • As Deadends are done repeatedly and probably something you wouldn’t want to vary, you get tracks. It would be an interesting enhancement to mow Deadends “every Nth time.” Probably the same with mowing Perimeter Mowing Laps as well – every Nth time. (Yep, there are workarounds, which I use.)

  • What is the status of bringing Sidewalks to the mower to enhance Deadends? If we had one-way Deadends that acted as Pathways, in a Work Plan we could direct the mower which path to take (I use “Decoy Deadends” to work around this and am taking advantage of the variability recently added to Pathways and navigation paths.)

  • Auto-map and auto-mow/clear corners (mower, snowblower). Maybe I’m missing something and not doing corners correctly, but I have to turn the mower/snowblower well before a corner so the rear of the machine won’t whack whatever it is I’m mapping next to. It would be great if you could tell the map that it’s a corner and the mower/snowblower could figure out the best way to mow/clear the area. It could be done the same way as you’d do it physically with a push mower – follow the border into the corner, angle out, do another pass. Then follow the border from the other side of the corner, angle out, do another pass. The way I do it now is to map as close as I can to the corner and then use two or more Deadends. But it seems that this is something the mapping algorithm could figure out.

Thanks for taking the time to share these ideas.

For the first suggestion, adding an option to run Deadends or Perimeter Mowing Laps every Nth time isn’t currently a high-priority item for the short term, but we’ll keep the use case in mind as we continue reviewing user feedback.

For the second suggestion, we’ve seen similar requests around adding one-way Pathways for mower navigation. At this stage, however, this isn’t a direction our product team is planning to pursue.

For the corner-handling scenario, we’ll continue improving Yarbo’s path-planning logic so it can handle tighter spaces and corners more naturally over time.
