3D-printable replica of Pro mulching blade for Non-pro mower - Initial Design Idea in the Post

@robitoverlord , does this blade design for mower pro or non pro mower? Sorry for being stupid here.

Now let’s embed a thin strip of AR6 steel along the cutting edges

I only have the pro mower, I don’t know if the hubs have a different design or if they are the same. I plan to get my prototype fitted today, maybe I can post up a model of the pro blade hub (where the blades mount to) and see if we can determine if they are in fact the same. The difference in pro vs non pro is probably just motor power and reuse everything else, but idk.

As for putting in a twist - that would make the blades directional and you would have to keep track of which one is left and which one is right. It also complicates printing because they you need support all over the place vs this design which only needs support around the mounting holes.

This design might cut like total crap, so I will report back when my grass has grown enough to test them out.

I had though about putting in a channel to hold a piece of metal like some utility blades or something like that → here is my issue with adding metal.

Its a 3d print, if one of the blades snaps off → It would get shot against the sides of the mower head at light speed and may or may not come out. God forbid a small child was standing close by when it did. Knowing that is a risk, I can’t in good faith add that to the design. I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing my part might kill somebodies kid.

I was joking… a little

There is a deep need for a sarcasm font.

You might be able to add a twist during the annealing process by placing a metal strip along opposite edges.

I took some initial tutorial and was able to create a basic design. I will improve it and add twisted wings and in-place razor blade mounting option one I progress my learning.

That looks cool :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I wish I had a scanner and could send you a scan of my blades. I have a 3d printer, but do not have a scanner or knowledge to design blades.

does anyone know how to share the 3D file for folks who could take it to next step. I used Shapr3d.

Are you using the free or paid version? I don’t use Shapr3d but the free version doesn’t support collaboration, the paid versions Pro and Team offer it.

The free version of OnShape does support real time collaboration.

Free version

I posted a link to makerworld for my part, but you can upload to makerworld, thingiverse, printables, or one of the 900 other 3d model sharing sites.

Second version I created, did not get the chance to put the razor blade mounting on the sharp edge yet and wasn;'t able to print either for fitment, should be sometime next week.

Test print

Wow. Very nice!

Looking forward to hearing the results of your first mowing job using them.

The cross shaped ones a swappable.

What material did you use?

They look great :+1:
