Changed my RTK to Pro models. Changes to reception and weird behavior

I finally had time to replace the RTK on the data center yesterday. I changed them on the rover prior. It’s kind of a project hanging out of the 2nd floor windows, lol. I did notice an immediate increase in cnr on GPS, BDS (BeiDou?), Glonass, and Galileo. I’m not sure if it was worth the effort, but I have to spend my points on something. After the change, Galileo is acting weird. It will show double digit satellites (15-22), but cnr will show 0. Then it shows 44, then zero. I rebooted the DC to see if it changed.

Now to be honest, I have never really watched the app for more than a few seconds, so it could have been doing this all along. I don’t even know if it matters!! The others all show a strong signal. The locating variation in the app shows 0.00ft. It may just be an app glitch as well.

Before:

After (it does lock in more sats, but this was right after a reboot. You can see the increase):

This is a screen recording. You can see Galileo cutting in and out:

Galileo does that. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Yeah, like I said I’ve never watched it that closely. Does it actually use all the different bands or primarily GPS because we are in the US? The others all seem strong enough anyway.

That’s unclear. I wish we had more information available about what it uses. But in theory it should use whatever shared satellites are seen between the rover and base station (DC) that have the best CNR and quality.

Hi there, the CNR shown in the app only reflects the satellites that are currently being used in the positioning solution. If Galileo satellites are not being included in the calculation at that moment, the app will show the CNR as 0. When they are included, you may briefly see their actual signal strength, such as 44.

So the 0 → 44 → 0 behavior you’re seeing can simply reflect whether Galileo satellites are participating in the solution at that time, and it generally should not have a significant impact as long as the overall RTK positioning remains stable.

Thank you for the explanation. So basically it’s normal behavior.

Is anyone more important? The US uses GPS, is that used more than the others, or is it simply a combination?

The priority would be on the ones with the best signal strength and quality.
