Docking return behavior

Rather than going “forward” down the path to the docking station and then rotating (needlessly?) right in front of it, running into things in the process, it would be better if it backed down the pathway. Instructions for a docking return path should tell you the “end” of the path should be in a clear area where it’s safe for the unit to spin around. This seems like it would avoid a lot of docking issues, unless the spinning at the station is for calibration purposed with GPS.

I second this suggestion. Backing down the path to the charging pad would be more efficient for my setup where the pad is in a landscaping area on top of river rocks and paver stones. Turning around in front with the mower attached makes a little rock mess. Turning around at the front of the path to charger would be done in grass and not swing the mower around in rocks.

Yes, no matter how you create a smooth turn path so that it may simply back up, it 180 turns and drags the deck across the charger only to 180 turn again to back up.

Unnecessary wear on grass or treads if concrete. This should be near the top of the fix list.

Unnecessary wear, every work plan. Every time.

PLEASE make this happen. For snow season this is a MUST if you are going to use an enclosure. I don’t understand why you are so against people keeping your product even safer, when you already have the code for backing down a pathway for a dead end sidewalk!

@alex.l.woods Hi there, I’ve discussed this with the relevant team. Regarding the pathway behavior, during snowy seasons the snowblower needs to clear the pathway to ensure a smooth return. Because of this operational requirement, we may not be able to implement this feature at the moment.

The pathway would be cleared from when it started. The user could make the choice whether or not it makes sense for them given the snowy conditions. Also, this would be great for other modules as well.

I would like to see the Yarbo back up to the docking station too. I was surprised after building a storage enclosure the yarbo try’s to turn inside the enclosure. Maybe an option to turn a few few feet away (adjustable) then back up to the dock. How do we request a new software feature?

Ok, Yarbo’s mission statement reads something like this:

Our mission revolves around a shared vision; harnessing, cutting edge technology to tackle real world challenges in yard maintenance. This vision is continually reinforced through user interaction, shaping the future of our industry.

How has this feature request not become more of a priority? To summarize, Yarbo already has the code capable of backing down a dead end path but has not prioritized this feature to meet the end user’s request. Yarbo has had the feature request since before 2025-04.

The dumb thing can drive backwards on a memory path, but yes let’s not use that for anything useful.

Please provide the feature for the Yarbo to turn 180degrees in the pathway at the users position of choice and back from there onto the docking station. The current docking process is too restrictive where the docking station has a clear path away from but has limited room to turn around immediately at the dock station location. I realize this has been requested many times. If there is a reason why this Yarbo does not want to add this feature, please take the time to explain why rather than letting it go unanswered.

Also agree - Add the feature for the Yarbo to turn 180 degrees in a path at a user’s position of choice.

Suggestion Idea - have a new option in edit map to create a specific “rotate” path which is unlike a general pathway. This “rotate” path is direction specific meaning that when the path is created the rotation will only happen when Yarbo is moving forward on the path (the direction it was originally created) and will not rotate when traveling backward on the path.

While creating the “rotate” path, like other pathways with the Yarbo, there will now be a button to mark a GPS rotation point. After marking this point you continue finishing the remaining path. You create this special path driving forward toward the docking station.

Now when docking, and Yarbo is on the “rotate” path, as soon as it hits the marked GPS point it rotates 180 degrees and continues backing in. The program knows it is on a “rotate” path, is already backing in toward the docking station. and no turn logic is needed to determine whether to rotate or not.

When leaving the docking station and driving out on the “rotate” path, the Yarbo is actually traveling in the reverse direction to the direction the path was created and so Yarbo will just continue on the path and will not rotate.

The usual create pathway option still exists if you want Yarbo to drive forward to the docking station and then rotate as usual.

At the initial evaluation stage, our product team did review this request, including how it would work in snow season scenarios, and there were some practical considerations at the time.

Since this request has continued to come up and users have shared more specific use cases, I’ll bring it back to the team for another look.

Exactly THIS!!! Especially when mowing or snow blowing.

  • When mowing it should travel forward to a point of my choice then rotate so it doesn’t try to drag the aluminum front comb along the ground snagging on possible objects or plants.
  • When snow blowing, I want that snow blower to turn around in a known safe cleared area as well as not bashing into objects near the dock, wildly swinging that thing around like a wrecking ball.
