Initial Setup Feedback

Good morning!

I received and put together Yarbo Core yesterday, along with the RTK antenna and the rest. I utilized a combination of the video tutorials and the manual (yes I opened the book) to set it up.

A bit of feedback:

  1. RTK antenna setup steps are backwards. The first step, I believe, should be running the cord to where you want to set it up (if possible), so you don’t need to wrangle a fully-wrapped cable back to where you’re trying to plug it in.
  2. The steps to build the RTK antenna pole completely skip the base pole which means you either have to re-wire or run the entirety of the cable through the base pole. A simple adjustment to the instructions would solve this issue.
  3. Some of the RTK antenna pipes have poor screw hole fit when the buttons are latched. Manufacturing issue - should be reviewed.
  4. The low-profile RTK antennas to be installed on the Yarbo were already installed on the high-profile antenna pylons, but it was not obvious via the instructions that they are the same thing.
  5. The app did not do an “initial setup” with me - The RTK antenna needed to be reset in Settings > Reinstall Data Center for initial setup to occur - it simply blinked red until configured.
  6. The controller was extremely confusing and not well documented - thankfully a YouTube tutorial existed.

There are some positives!

  1. Follow Me mode worked quite well (if it could keep up!)
  2. The amount of tooling was great, thanks for that.
  3. I think the packaging could survive a drop from 10 feet, but that was not tested.

Hope this helps.

Well, at least I got #4 in the Big README.

  • Which was the best video you watched to learn about the controller? I’d like to reference that in the Big README.
  • “Initial setup” for the Data Center — do you think you missed a step, or is what you ran into how it really works? Is this something that you think people will run into that I should add to the Big README?

Thanks Ken, I actually read a lot of your ReadMe before the boxes arrived! I must have overlooked that!

As far as your questions:

  • The video that actually told me how the controller works in a usable way is this one. The fact that you MUST hold the RB button (god forbid you’re not a gamer) was something worth saying, because this other video simply circles a mission-critical piece of information.
  • So I don’t know if I somehow skipped a whole part of setup, but I logged in and was presented with pairing the Yarbo. After it was paired, nothing. So I think showing in your Readme that “if your RTK antenna is just blinking red in a place you are pretty sure you have good GPS, did you initialize the RTK antenna in particular? If not, reset it in Settings.”

The DC install process as part of activating the Yarbo should have guided you through this install process and there is a pop up that says after updating the firmware on the DC that blinking red is normal after update and to complete the initialization. I may be confusing some of the order of steps here but I do remember the pop up stating this. The other important piece to be aware of is not to initialize the DC UNTIL the rover has been activated.

By activated you mean???

You add the core successfully to the app. This activates it to your Yarbo account.

That is how I interpreted it, but wanted to make sure I wasn’t mistaken.

this is probably what happened. I came in with the thought that it’s going to want GPS before I turn the thing on!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the initial setup!

We really appreciate the detailed feedback. I’ve already passed along your comments about the manual, RTK setup steps, and app guidance to our product team for further optimization. Your insights are incredibly helpful, and thanks again for bringing these issues to our attention.

Thanks, kids! I have updated the Big README with the YouTube video and some controller hints, and I mentioned “install the rover FIRST in the App, then worry about the Data Center.”

Useful info - thanks tons!

Thanks for collecting the tidbits into one location. Can be a lot of work and I for one appreciate your efforts.
