First use of Yarbo

I recently purchased to take advantage of the five-year warranty and put the core to first use over the weekend. I have been putting off weeding inside our shrubs and I figured trying the follow me mode might be kind of fun.

I believe I’ve seen elsewhere where people requested faster follow me speed, as well as, not requiring to have your phone out in order for it to work, both I agree with. But it worked as expected, and it was pretty cool to use it this way.

I haven’t received my mower pro yet, but I’m very anxious to start the mapping process and getting it dialed in.

Seems funny, you buy an autonomous yard tool which then gets you out into the 80°, high humidity, weather so you can play with the yard tool.

I know what you mean. I spend more time outdoors with mine (watching it in awe most of the time) than I ever did mowing the lawn or dealing with snow beforehand. The difference is that I can choose to go back inside and watch it from the comfort of my chair from the app. Also a hazard of being a tester I guess. I have to watch it more looking for any bugs and inconsistencies.

Hello man,

I just joined, got my Yarbo in the garage but waiting for the 5th and final box from fedex. I’m also still learning how to work the forums. Got any tips for me? The battery should be here tomorrow but I’m trying to read and research as much as I can.

That sounds like a great experience! Hope your Mower Pro arrives soon, and the mapping process goes smoothly. Feel free to share your experience here as you continue!

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum!

I’d say the single most important thing is the proper placement of the RTK Data Center. The DC needs an unobstructed view of the sky all the way around it. So it should be mounted such that there are no trees, buildings, etc that will block its view of the sky.

so take your time and be thoughtful about where it’s installed. Once you’ve started mapping your yard with Yarbo, you CANNOT move the DC without remapping everything again.

Good luck! And there’s no such thing as a stupid question, so feel free to ask away as you get to know your Yarbo.

I think this is the correct approach; research, plan, research more, change plan, research more, ….you get the idea.

I’m sure it’s basically a nightmare for Yarbo & support to release a product that relies so much on a solid view of the sky knowing every property is different and everyones understanding of the requirements may also be a bit different. Also, that every customer has a different level of technical expertise and understanding of what they’re getting into with such an advanced device. The amount of variables at play to have an initial successful install and long term success without having to go back and move things around and potentially remap….are a lot. I seemingly got it right the first time but only time will tell if it’s stable but so far, it’s solid with loads of satellites in view.

I’m in the Cybersecurity world as well as have a business where we managed business networks. I love technology and troubleshooting. Doesn’t mean it isn’t frustrating at times.

For tips, don’t rush it? Take your time and make sure you verify your devices have the coverage they should right off the bat. Understand environmental variables exist and can interfere with your plan. Don’t rely on Wi-Fi for your outdoor connectivity, let Halow do its thing because don’t expect any consumer grade Wi-Fi to proper cover your property. Just like anything else in your world, you need to plan to maintain the Yarbo. A clean and lubricated robot is a happy robot. You wouldn’t skip oil changes in your car so why skip greasing the tracks on your robot?

@Tom.C and @rgloverii have some great advice. Also make sure your dock has at least 7FT of clearance, ideally all the way around it. The rover needs a strong GPS signal at the dock to start an auto plan and to dock autonomously. The closer to structures and instructions, it can block the signal or cause multipath issues with GPS. Also needs to be a flat level surface. You may want to put pavers or something in front of it for it to turn on when it docks. This will wear down due to the constant use.

And if you haven’t stumbled onto “the big read me” it has some great insights.

Good reminder, I forgot about this.

Keep an eye out for the time you have to send it back and see if it works for you. There’s a lot of positive chatter about what the tool could become on the forum but it seems to take very very long. Welcome to the family and I hope your purchase will strengthen Yarbo into making our Yarbo the best tool for the job!

Thank you to all of you. I’ll keep reading and I look forward to some of the new product that’s coming out.

Things are good. I had to remove the guards underneath the mower because it got stuck. The grass isn’t getting cut100%. Not even 80% but I guess th good news is that i can keep running it till it gets it right.

also the controller is terrible. It lags a lot and does erratic movements. Anyone know why?

If you are talking about the app controller then that can be bluetooth lag. Disable bluetooth and wifi on your phone and try it over your phones cellular connection instead (assuming you have at least 1-2 bars of signal). If it is the physical controller, I would recommend opening a ticket if it is laggy, it shouldn’t be.

I’ll try that thank you. I love that there are so many settings and options to switch to. So many that I often get lost in them all.

Also i was thinking of converting over to a Yarbo pro head. Is it worth it? Does it matter? I want a perfect cut and its ok so far.

If you’re happy with the cut thus far, you probably don’t need to. It’s more for cutting taller grass, denser grass and thick weeds, or cutting wet grass frequently. It’s very powerful and will plow through all of that with ease.
