M1 3d printed mulching blade

Wow! It shrunk the full 5%. I will have to use my big printer for the next experiment. Lol

I have a Lulzbot Taz 6 that I’ve owned for 9 years. Looking for upgrade options.

It’s gonna shrink quite a bit. ABS may be a better material for this. I’ve also had parts warp on me when annealing. Good luck.

Did you consider sending the design to PCBWay or another company and have them CNC it out of aluminum or titanium. FDM print methods don’t hold up very well in conditions like this in my experience. YMMV.

I’m experimenting. I think getting 3-4 seasons is likely.

I wouldn’t know what to suggest anywhere. Bamboo seems to get good reviews but they are likely bought these days.

Ken I’ve had some durability issues with the disc. I would hold off printing ATM.

I’m going to redesign it larger to allow for shrinkage after annealing.

Keep me posted Dave. I am a taker for the new design.

I really like my prusa. The one thing I found with the big printers ( mine is 5x5x6 ft )is that tolerances need to be very exact and you use a lot of material. If the print fails it is very hard to recover the print and costly to start over.

hey @laudav1285 i am new to this whole Yarbo world, but also dabble in 3D printing (Bambu A1)…i have the X1 mower module…i assume this same disk is compatible. Have you tried printing with ASA??? I bought some a while back for an outdoor patio part project, but never used it. I’m thinking of trying a different design for these disks. I live on an acreage and honestly, the clogging blades is pretty annoying.

I haven’t used ASA but it should work. I am not sure about annealing it though.

I think you’ll be pleased with the results.

Have you removed the two guards? That generally eliminates it.

no…I wondered about that. Is that OK?

Yarbo has suggested this if you are struggling with clogging. It will not void your warranty. Just be aware that if you mow below 2.7 inches (when the app warns you about cutting too low) that the blade guards aren’t there and the discs aren’t protected by the deck, so you have the potential to hit more things and possibly break a disc. But lots of people have removed these with no issues.

Honestly, I busted a disk in the first week i had it. It was only $30 on amazon, so i’m not TOO worried about that. I AM going to try and print @laudav1285 mulching disks at some point too.

Removing the guards is perfectly fine. Like Bryan said, just be careful if you’re cutting your grass super short.

I run mine at 2.6ā€ with no guards, and it works just fine. No issues even with tree roots and such.

(I probably just jinxed myself. My Yarbo is probably going to break BOTH discs today!)

Nah, probably only one today. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
