So with this last storm and my current dock location, Yarbo needed ~30% battery just to get to the driveway to start clearing…so I’m thinking about ways to have multiple dock locations without having to shell out another $900
, for a legit 2nd dock… Has anyone “developed a method” to facilitate getting the dock in the exact same spot? Or would you trust the “reinstall dock” procedure 2x a year?(You don’t lose your maps right?) Otherwise maybe driving some stakes in where the ground screws go so you can lift the dock up and move it to the other location and back? Then maybe something decorative to replace the dock, or a suedo-dock that doesn’t have the electronics? Wonder if Yarbo would supply that for a discount? Or we could 3d print something?
If you can’t get it in the exact same spot, a reinstall works fine. Just delete the old docks.
I’m thinking you’ll know exactly where the summer dock was due to the giant dirt rectangle under it ![]()
Moving the dock would just be a matter of editing the map and turning one dock (location) off and the other on?
LOL. Yes, that would certainly help locate the location. Yes, if you can put it back exactly in the same spot then it is a simple matter of editing the map, click on docking stations and enabling the one you want to be active. It automatically disables the other one.
you could use weather treated 4x4s with anchor points. Align the new anchor holes with the holes on the docking station
Counter sink the 4x4s in the ground to prevent movement
How precise does placement have to be? Are we talking single digit centimeters?
I was planning on using a tape measure from a fixed objects (air conditioner & wall outlet in my case). Counter sinking 4x4s with anchor holes suggests single digit centimeters of precision.
Needs to be exact or if you ever have to correct for map drift your map will be off by that amount and that can be problematic further out.
Yeah that’s what has me most concerned…has anyone been moving their dock regularly? The last thing I want to have to do is remap everything…maybe it’s best to do the reinstall dock every time?
Well I made a stone parking area for it in back, over winter I’d probably lose exactly where it needs to go. My plan for in front was to do something similar and either steal/extend some of the wife’s mulched garden bed or make a place next to the garage…it barely gets GPS there though…but I’m really hoping they can get vision assist working soon…although with the poor camera performance in winter that might now work all that well![]()
Adding a dock doesn’t disconnect pathways to the old dock, work plans, etc. Reinstall can impact your work plans. You have to recreate them if I’m not mistaken. The procedure is effectively the same either way. I would treat it like a new dock each time and I think you’d be OK. Up to you if you reinstall or add/delete.
Oh, lame…losing the work plans is annoying…![]()
Yep, for sure. Just like when you backup and restore and it drops those and all settings.
OK I’m slow and a newbie. My Yarbo arrived this week and is still in boxes as I prepare for installation.
So you cannot adjust the Charging Dock location without remapping everything? I would think the Dock(s) is simply a location on the holistic Map. I did not expect it to be an essential reference point to the mowing/snow-blowing work plans. Yes integral to Pathways to those work plans, but relocating the Dock temporarily or permanently not requiring a complete remapping.
Let me ask it this way - could I just tell the Core to go to the specific-season-Dock-location (which I setup in advance), see where it ends up, mark that location with yarn/string/sticks, move the Core forward say 6’ (i.e. out of the way), install the Charging Dock w/anchors exactly where it is expect based on the yarn/string/sticks thereby achieving the accuracy needed?
I’m hoping to avoid installing 4x4s anchored to the ground (or similar setups) at two locations. Instead I would move the Dock, sink the anchors in the ground, adjust on the Map if needed, and be ready for the season.
Thank you in advance for suggestions and guidance. I’d like to get this right from the beginning.
You won’t need to remap. That’s an extreme circumstance. You can easily just add and delete docking stations whenever you move them. You could enable one but without the dock installed at that location it wouldn’t complete the recharge process successfully. If the dock was slightly off, it probably would eventually dock. However if you had a problem later with map drift, correcting it could cause your map to be off. The way around this would be to reinstall the docking station after you got it at its new location. There’s some minor inconvenience with that, but it’s easy enough to make new work plans. All a work plan is, is something that you lump work zones (areas) into and then you can start the plan or schedule it. Takes a few seconds to make one.
I bought 2 docks and alternate between them. They aren’t cheap, but help a lot with switching seasons. Something to consider anyway.
I can’t stomach paying $900 for that…![]()
You could buy another core and get it for free! ![]()
Maybe, maybe not. Yarbo does give points and such to reduce the cost For me it was worth the setup time 2x per year. Others maybe not worth it in their case.
Should come with the mower/blower combo? ![]()
I think if you ask nicely! ![]()
