I think it would be helpfull to have a pause function while mapping new features.
It would be helpfull to create straight lines along walls and passageways.
It would be helpfull to create sharp corners. (pause before the corner, maneuver backwarwards into the corner, resume mapping)
So “pause” in that you’d leave whatever you have there, go elsewhere in the App and do something, and come back at some point and pick up the mapping from where you left off, then.
Straight lines: I know that’s been requested – “draw a straight line from where the rover just was to where it is now” kind of thing. You can do a straight line by clicking “Next” to finish off mapping an Area – it draws a straight line along that dashed yellow line. You can start mapping at the grassy edge of your driveway at the end, go out over your lawn in a rough horseshoe shape, rejoin the grassy edge of your driveway at your garage, and click Next, and a straight line will appear along your driveway.
Sharp corners: They are hard to map – absolutely, but the bigger issue is Yarbo can turn there while working and have its butt whack whatever creates that corner (fences, walls, hedges, whatever). What people do is use Deadends to drive along and into sharp corners, one Deadend from each side. So you map the Area as close as you can to the corner but still allow Yarbo turning room, and then you finish the corner with two Deadends.
@lars@Ken the dead-ends do work, but they are incredibly finicky. For example, Yarbo has no intelligence of its surrounding when navigating a dead-end, except for bumper. This means you have to be VERY careful how you map it.
It is a short term fix (hopefully) until Yarbo can confidently handle a 90-degree corner.
To add to this. Dead ends that are within a work area assume that when backing that it is safe to do smart turns (if smart turn is enabled) because it can use the area for the extra room to maneuver. They are aware this is not ok and looking into a fix. This should not be an issue when it’s not within a mapped area. Just make the dead ends long and straight. Don’t do turns near anything that is near by. Do that out in the open. Assume it will do lots of maneuvering and turning to enter the dead end. Keep that far away for the extra space. It can come from any angle and will take liberties inside a mapped area.

Yes @bryan.wheeler this one got me. I had some dead ends configured, but when I ran a job, Yarbo came in from an angle I had not anticipated. Yarbo started maneuvering, and hit some landscaping nearby. No damage, but lets just say I was trying to get to the pause button and I wasn’t fast enough.
Yawp. All my Deadends start a bit into the Area away from everything.
Deadends are kinda violent in that way. Yarbo gettin’ a bit bossy.
But as a feature? Great at what it’s for. It even seems to ignore No-go Zones, which lets you get in between that Holly which is close to a wall and in a No-go Zone but a Deadend sneeks right behind it to cut the grass near the wall, at least from what I just mapped yesterday.
Oh man, I have 2 raised flower beds that Yarbo just cannot seem to navigate in between during a job. I didn’t realize dead-ends will ignore no-go zones. I’ll have to run a dead-end through that small area, and just block the entire thing off with a single no-go zone. Thanks for your insight!
@bryan.wheeler Don’t you DARE tell them to fix my bufeature! Feabug? Functionality As ImpLemented (F.A.I.L.)?
I was likening it to Pathways, which they said not to put into No-go Zones because it’ll ignore them, right? I think that came up 2-3 weeks ago in discussions. So I figure, yep, not a bug. Glad it works how it does. Don’t fix it ever.

No, sorry, you got me wrong. With “pause” I meant: Stop recording the path of yarbo; drive around without recording and then restart recording. In the map: draw a straight line from the last recorded position to the actual position.
OK, got it. I think that’s the one under my thinking of Straight Lines – stop mapping, move the rover, draw a straight line.
I threw some stuff out there into the discussion when I showed up as a bright, enthusiastic, wide-eyed young lad (I know, “Jeez, what happened to ya since?”) along with other bright, enthusiastic, caffeine-driven folks, and a lot of these were probably already on the table:
“Summon” and “Send” (alias “Come To Me” and “Go To Waypoint”)
Tying your phone’s GPS into mapping (not really accurate)
Use phone GPS with the “Come To Me” feature (just call it “Summon” – steal it from Elon…LOL!)
The “Go To Waypoint”/“Send” feature (is happening)
A “Railroad” – define waypoints along a route and pause, resume when told or with hand gesture. Can go back and forth between two points. Used by someone hauling water to several flowerbeds, by someone hauling cinderblocks from the pickup to spot(s) in the backyard, etc.
Using hand gestures in conjunction with “Follow Me” (from someone on FB recently)
Hand-drawing/hand-editing maps (on the list)
A hack to get “Summon” and “Send” features…kinda…(nobody likes my random Tips)
A hack to help size a No-go Zone Template (still a great Tip, I still use it, still no love)
Ahh, The Wild West, going back, ohh, five or six months. Wild. Good times.
Something that’s going to be possible: Navigate without maps, making the “Come To Me” and “Go To Waypoint” navigation universal. The rover is told to go somewhere and will be able to find its way around obstacles when Vision is refined. For now I’m sure these features will be limited to mapped areas only, and that’s fine for now. Maybe they will tie into Patrol Lines, if I understand what those are (never used one).
Based on your follow-up reply, do you mean that you would like a straight line feature, where you can confirm the accurate positions of two points and have the system automatically draw a straight line between them during mapping?
If so, we’re happy to let you know that this feature is already on our development list!
Please let me know if I have misunderstood anything.
@Yarbo-Forum Yes! I think people would like to drop a waypoint while mapping, move the rover somewhere, and draw a straight line between the two points, then continue mapping – something like that anyway! We bounced that around months ago, I do see it on Facebook from time to time, and we know Yarbo listens to our feedback. Great that it’s coming!
Also No-go Zones used to close off with a straight line with the “Next” button like Areas do (which I use all the time when mapping an Area). But that is no longer the case with No-go Zones. Is there a reason that went away?
Thank you for your valuable feedback.
Regarding the closure of No-go Zones with a straight line, we would like to share some background on the adjustment.
After careful observation, we found that quite a number of after-sales issues were caused by users unintentionally having straight lines cross into restricted no-go areas.
To enhance mapping accuracy and reduce such cases, we have introduced a limitation: the “Next” button can now only be used to close a No-go Zone when the distance between the two final points is 0.3 meters or less.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to improve the overall user experience.
