Make straight lines during mapping activities

During creating or editing work areas, I need the ability to create straight lines. Example: perimeter of a work area along a driveway or fence line or road. The current process of manually steering Yarbo makes it difficult to create a straight line. This would also apply to other map features including no go zones, dead ends, etc.

Solution ideas

Use waypoints to set the start and end of a line or line segment. In other words start Yarbo at the beginning point, drive to the endpoint, and the app connects the dots in a straight line.

Point Yarbo in the desired heading and the app automatically follows that heading until you press stop.

Continue with the current process of manually steering Yarbo but then the app prompts you to “clean up” the straight line upon completion.

I like any or all 3 of those options.

I believe some of these are already being considered and or worked on.

I like them all. The line function is kinda already there. It just needs to be expanded on. When you complete the last connection on an area , it makes a straight line back to the starting point.

Straight back, or reverse the same route using the same waypoints?

Ok, interesting. So the current functionality supports a final straight line segment back to the starting point? This would help in the case you have:

  • a single straight line segment in the work area
  • make it the last segment mapped for the work area

Correct. If you plan your start point correctly you can end with an automatic straight line back to it.

Ok, tried it and it works. But need more than the final edge straight. :sob:

For sure. It’s only a little help. We need the Yarbo to provide the rest.

Thank you for sharing your suggestion. We’ve received similar requests for a straight-line drawing feature before, and we’re happy to let you know that it’s already in development.

What if you could drop a templated no go zone and then convert that to a work area.

Just a thought.

That would help for square/rectangular areas (or circles). I need a way to create a polygon on a map and add vertices where needed, pull them around to adjust, etc. Similar to other Google Maps experiences you find like those sites where you measure your lawn size.
