Two days of weeding with Yarbo.

It’s weeding season here in Ohio. OK… I just got the gumption together to go weed. It’s been really hot here.

I’ve spent the last two days weeding our 2.9 acres here in central Ohio. Yarbo was by my side the whole time. Here is my experience.

I used Yarbo with the towing hitch pulling our garden wagon.

I put Yarbo in follow me mode to follow me pulling the wagon to each of the areas that needed weeding.

First impression of follow me. Not too shabby. It’s a little slow to keep up. I think the speed of follow me should be increased to match the pace of the person being followed. I’m short and with short legs Yarbo still could not keep up. I suspect people with a larger stride will walk off and leave Yarbo sitting.

Another suggestion for the follow me mode would be to stop the iPhone from locking during follow me mode. Once the phone locks Yarbo seems to stop following shortly there after.

After following me and filling the wagon with weeds its off to the burn pile.

I chose to use waypoint navigation for this task. First impressions of waypoint navigation. Also not too shabby.

It’s very handy to have Yarbo head over to the gate by the burn pile while I go to the house to cool off. Did I mention its hot here?

My very first use of Waypoint Navigation wasn’t so good. I told Yarbo to go to a waypoint and he just sat there. I figured the Waypoint Navigation didn’t work so I prepared to record the issue. While I was getting the equipment together to record the issue my wife asked what Yarbo was doing crossing the yard. I guess I was too impatient. Yarbo just wanted some time and to get my wife’s attention before preceding with the Waypoint Navigation I suppose.

Suggestions for Waypoint Navigation. It would be handy to save waypoints. I could save a waypoint for the area where I wash the mower deck. And save a waypoint in front of the garage where I pull Yarbo inside for maintenance like track greasing and cutting blade replacements.

Two more features that help with my summer workload.

Two Yarbo features that I would say are not feature complete, but are currently functional.

Thanks team Yarbo keep up the good work!

So follow me used to be something you activate and you could close the app and it would continue to work. For safety reasons they disabled that. To me this removes the utility of it. If I’m weeding or doing something dirty which I probably am, I don’t want to be messing with my phone. They need to bring it back and just have it auto shut off after 10 mins of no user activity in the front camera. Even better would be a hand gesture or wake word and stop word.

Yeah the stop following me because I put my phone in my pocket does make it more difficult. Remove the work gloves, grab the phone out of my pocket, unlock it and off we go again. Could be better.

A couple of times during the day too, if Yarbo was following me and I went too close to my wife, Yarbo would switch and follow her. Well I mean she is more attractive, but work with me here Yarbo.

Yeah that’s definitely a known limitation. Will follow anyone home. It’s very friendly.
