~$6.50 per month isn’t bad for the 4G service. Gives peace of mind from a connectivity perspective, as well as a device theft perspective. To me, it’s worth that nominal cost.

Q: Can I install my own SIM card or choose my own carrier?

No. The 4G Connect Kit is a built-in part of the Yarbo ecosystem — the cellular module and its embedded SIM are designed to work together as one integrated system, and it is automatically activated when your Yarbo is set.

Things will change regarding this?

7,5 euros per month is expensive in EU. I pay 6 euros (Estonian carrier) for unlimited calls and data when im in northern Europe region, and when I travel elsewhere in EU I believe it’s 60gb and some unbelievably generous amount of talk minutes.

So for 60minutes of smart vision per month for 7,5 is on the expensive side.

Does anyone know if Yarbo plans to remove the limit on usage of 4g when it is not their provided sim card?

I don’t think that is in the current plans, but like everything I am sure they will evaluate and makes changes as necessary. My feeling is they should limit the use of your own SIM card during the warranty period (or during the included free period) and then allow it afterwards. Ideally they would know that it isn’t their card and remove all limitations. I mean they literally just added the APN updating in the app as a feature, so I feel this not using a SIM only applies to future models that don’t exist yet and may have embedded eSIMs.

Reading the pages, it sounds like you can’t remotely access the Yarbo without 4G. Doesn’t that go over the Internet-connected datacenter when HaLow is in use? I have 2 very small areas of my overall mowing are that HaLow doesn’t reach. It isn’t worth it to me to pay for 4G just to cover those, and that’s the only time I see it come on. It sounds like they’re stripping features from the HaLow connectivity to me.

No, you normally access Yarbo via the HaLow connection to the Internet.

As an alternative, you can connect the Core directly to WiFi, but I wouldn’t suggest it unless there is a specific need for it.

4G is normally like the backup plan, in case both HaLow and WiFi are unavailable, OR if you move Yarbo to an area outside of the HaLow and WiFi range.

That was my understanding too, and is how it works now. My concern was this:

It then goes on to say that with 4G, you unlock Smart Vision, Remote Access, etc. Which we get now without 4G.

They worded it poorly. What they are trying to convey is that 4G unlocks Theft tracking and all the HaLow features whenever HaLow or home WiFi is unavailable. All you have now will continue to function except 4G if you don’t subscribe. However, in the spot in your yard where you lose HaLow, it will stop when it reaches the PPVS limit if HaLow or Home WiFi isn’t available. Something to consider.

That makes sense. As long as it’s staying the same as it is now, but now the line in the sand for the free 4G is drawn, I’m good. I just am praying they aren’t stripping features.

No, I don’t see them doing that. They are just finally putting the price and subscription model out there for cellular. They told me back in June 2024 during the preorder livestreams that this would be a thing. We still have a whole year before we have to worry about it. I’m not complaining. It does cost money and I enjoyed the free ride. I am also happy they found a way to give NetRTK to everyone. That’s a huge win for the community and opens up the doors for so many new customers who didn’t want to mount the DC outside as well as those who want to remove it or have issues with it.

NetRTK is a wonderful way to both lower the cost of the robot package (no DC in the box) while also making the initial installation easier for the average consumer. Seems like a win/win as long as you live somewhere with coverage.

I have had absolutely zero problems using NetRTK with Yarbo and Mammotion all year. I can’t tell any difference in accuracy.

I don’t think they should stop shipping the DC by default. In fact, I think they should ONLY make the RTK version of the DC 2.0. A lot of robot mowers that support nRTK also still ship the base station. I don’t think Yarbo should cut this from the default package. HaLow is still a very effective and useful WiFi for the rover and will provide the best overall user experience and also not require a 4G subscription after a year.

Totally agree. I hope they don’t cheap out and remove it.

So let me know if i understood correct.

  1. In the announcement when they spesk about 4G and WiFi coverage, they mean HaLow WiFi. Right? And then - what is the HaLow coverage distance in plane sight?

  2. I’ve been told by my dealer that it IS possible to put my own SIM card with my own data plan and not use the Yarbo’s provided SIM and data plan. Now I read that it’s impossible. I agree that currently proposed price is robbery if we compare with mobile data prices in northern Europe, where I live and operate my Yarbo.
So, is it, or is it not possible?

  1. Yes, WiFi means your home routers WiFi or the DC’s WiFi HaLow. HaLow coverage is in theory up to 31 Acres, but that is reduced if there are obstructions that reduce the signal strength/range.

  2. Your own SIM will work on the current Y series. However, it may not work on future models.

Ok. That’s great!
So in case I don’t use NetRTK, i should be fine as 4G kicks in quite rare in my yard.
So next year swithing to my own SIM card.

The geofencing is still questionable as Yarbo can be swithed off when being stolen

Just curious does the Yarbrough have a SIM card in it already for the 4G lte? And where do we sign up in the app to use the yarbo 4G plan?

I poked around in the network area of the app and I don’t see it but I do remember in the past when my wi-fi I went out that it was using some 4G data so I’m just wondering how I set up the plan because I’d be happy to as the internet sometimes drops out in my area for no reason.

All you have to do is toggle cellular on in the app. There is nothing you need to setup. Since we effectively have a full year to worry about this, there isn’t a place in the app to sign up for the subscription service as of yet. The SIM card is in the battery compartment. You’ll see the white main board, and the SIM card slot is there.

I have been using Netrtk for sometime now and I prefer it to my Data Center. My rover seems to connect faster and receives better coverage while working. I live in a heavily wooded area and I would sometimes lose coverage while on the DC only. This is great news! Bravo

I knew it wouldn’t stay free, I recall seeing things stating it will cost “at some point” for Yarbo and other things. My entire concern was caused by the wording, as I’ve said.
