Yarbo PM Day

I was outside checking on the yard, and walked by Yarbo in his dog house. I was surprised to see how dirty and dingy he looked. Since the weather is so nice today, I decided to take advantage and give Yarbo some Preventative Maintenance.

First, I drove him to the side of the house and gave him a bath with the water hose. Did I mention he was REALLY dirty! Washed out the auger, the tracks, and everything else. Now he looks good as new again. Nice and clean.

Then I checked the auger and impeller to make sure there was no damage, and to verify the condition of the sheer pins. All looks well, but I noticed a couple of places on the auger blades where the black paint has come off. I’ll hit that with some spray paint after the winter season is done.

Next, I removed the S1 module, and checked the impeller belt and pulleys. I’m really pleased to say that the belt looked perfectly fine! No signs of damage or undue wear.

Finally, I flipped Yarbo on its sides, and inspected & greased the tracks (for the first time all winter!!). While the tracks were completely devoid of grease, there were no signs of wear or abraision on the rubber tracks. I was kind of worried about that, so it’s nice to see that all was well. After giving the tracks some grease, I drove Yarbo around a bit to distribute the grease, then gave him a second application of grease for good measure.

All in all, Yarbo looked to be in very good shape, with nothing troubling observed. Knock on wood that it stays that way!

I’m pretty sure my track wear was from ice build up, but I’m definitely going to be checking my tracks more often:sweat_smile:

Yea, it was your pictures that had me worried!!

Thankfully my tracks still looked pretty much like new.

With the amount of snow he gets, I would look far worse than those tracks if I had to manually deal with all that snow. The cost of new tracks each year is certainly a small price to pay to not have to deal with that amount of snow most of the time. Frequent greasing certainly couldn’t hurt though. Might help it wear far less.
