Yarbo slowly backing up to the left

I noticed a new issue that I’ve personally not run into before. I don’t know if it’s now that the trimmer is installed or maybe this new movement came in during an update from when I last mowed. What I’m seeing is, when Yarbo gets to a turn, say at the end of a mow line and needs to make a left, it will stop then start to slowly reverse while also slightly turning. It happens twice in this video. When it does this new dance, it’s putting itself in a worse position for the turn taking even longer that it should and wasting battery. This happened multiple times today while mowing other parts of my yard.

This is because of the trimmer. It’s making room for the turn. Take the trimmer off and it will behave differently. It definitely needs refinement.

That was an assumption, however, it’s almost like the parameter sensors aren’t being used. The amount of times it can make a turn with penalty of room but instead does this is wild. A few spots there is nothing to run into at all which was extra annoying. Leaving it to do its thing was the best, sometimes the magic appears when you’re not watching it work.

I had a rough mowing day today. I thought it was the mower being stupid with GPS dropouts but it turned out our internet was flapping. My wife came out at one point and said the internet was out. I was working on the cars and trying to get Yarbo to actually mow so I didn’t really process it. I then came in to look at the internet, rebooted the modem which brought it back online, and Yarbo started working without issue. I owe the Yarbo gods some apologies and placed a few bucks in the swear jar. That said, an app notification would be great saying “Internet connection is down, Yarbo will experience downtime” or something.

Yeah the turning logic in general needs a ton of work.

Regarding Internet, it should still work without internet as long as it’s on HaLow. But there was a G3 solar storm earlier today. I had GPS dropouts where I normally don’t.

Thanks for sharing this — really helpful observation.

As Bryan mentioned, this behavior is related to the trimmer, as the unit requires more space when making turns with the trimmer installed.

That said, we understand this behavior isn’t ideal and still needs further optimization. Your feedback is very valuable, and we’ll continue working on improving this in future updates.

Appreciate you taking the time to share this!

My HaLow was offline and GPS was red. I rebooted the DC thinking maybe that could have been the problem. The DC came back up, Yarbo got a connection for a few seconds and then it dropped out. I swapped the RTK antennas left to right, no change. That’s when I took a break and checked out the internet. After that was back online the Yarbo’s HaLow and GPS came back.

It’s quite possible the G3 solar storm was causing issues, I don’t know. The timing of the internet going out and when it came back online lined up to my connectivity issues.

I had a HaLow disconnect yesterday too, but no internet issue. So mine was operating fine still over 4G. If your HaLow was disconnected (false in diagnostics) and your internet was out, it would definitely stop with a loss of “GPS”.

I haven’t enabled 4G. Not because I don’t want to, I just haven’t. I think I will which should help should I run into that situation again.

No reason not to. It’s free and can come in handy if you’re ever not home and there’s an issue with HaLow.

*free for now:sweat_smile:
What happens when the couple years are up, do we need to get our own dataplans or will Yarbo offer direct subscriptions? Hopefully starlink direct to cell is fully out, I’ve been loving having the $10/mo Tmobile starlink texting plan, can’t wait to drop Verizon:sweat_smile:

There is a data plan that will be able to be subscribed to. It’s still unclear when, or if that is going to happen for the Y series users. For the M cellular is an option and will require a subscription. At least, that’s how I understand it. And yes, the starlink beta works well. I use it for data.

Starlink is a game changer! Highly recommend!

My Dishy McFlatface is round. (A long time user). But I foresee some interesting times coming.

Didn’t fully watch the video just did the gemini summary, but I kinda expected all of those new rules to roll out eventually. $5/month for unlimited, bandwidth limited internet is crazy, I almost went and bought a mini to slap on the windshield of both our cars…lol just like cybercab rides that started at $4.20

I tried putting one of my Starlink dishes in the back of my Model X (literally just sat it on the floor of the trunk, looking up through the glass).

Was super surprised that it worked almost perfectly as I drove around for an entire day. Didn’t even have it secured. It was just sitting there. And I got great bandwidth throughout the entirety of the test day.

I was just curious to see what would happen. Unfortunately, I can’t think of a normal use case where I need to install a Starlink Mini in the car permanently. I get free premium connectivity from Tesla anyway.

Quite a few area’s up here that still don’t have cell coverage. Those are the prime camping/day trip spots too

Good point. Guess you can tell I don’t go off the beaten path when I go up north.

I used the Starlink T-Mobile cellular service when I was on my last cruise. That worked well.

Are you still using your original dish?? That’s kinda cool in a retro way. Wouldn’t you get faster speeds with a new dish though?

If it’s in a tent it’s allowable right?
This was the local test run to see if we could make it way out there off grid:

Hoping to make it to High Rock Bay or Keystone bay for a full weekend offgrid this summer before baby #5:sweat_smile::sweat_smile::sweat_smile:
