[2024] When Do You Need to Draw a No-Go Zone?

I, too, have a LOT of trees. My issue is not with the mower but with the trees themselves. Picking up limbs, sticks, and leaves is a job regardless of what type of mower you use. I sent a suggestion in to Yarbo to have a “Pine Straw Rake” module to attach to the core. It would have to have some way of knowing when the rake is full. It could lift the rake, pull forward say 10 inches, let the rake back down, and continue on according to calculated route per area. Then all you would have to do is collect all the small piles and dispose of the sticks and leaves. This would be a God Send for me, especially after a thunderstorm or somewhat strong wind. I’ve lived in this house since 1981 and have fought downed limbs, endless sticks, and I’m not even going to mention the never ending oak leaves.

I think I am going to have to buy one of these rakes to attach to my ATV. Some of these rakes on Amazon have a manual lever that you can reach without getting off the ATV to drop the pile of sticks & limbs. Then I can drive the ATV around the yard and just pick up the piles and throw them into the bed of the ATV. When it gets full I drive it over to our burn circle and dump the bed. I have even used the ATV to follow behind the Yarbo to create mow zones, no-go zones, dead ends, and pathways. Yes, I have a large yard with LOTS of trees. That ATV has saved me a million steps this year. I’ve even figured out how to use those ratchet straps to move large items in the yard. I’m 68 years old and my husband passed away in January of this year (2025) and I’ve had to do a lot of things I’ve never done by myself. As I have health issues myself I decided that I was going to give the robot mower a chance. Now I’m not at the mercy of someone else doing a crappy job. It’s taken me a full month to get the Yarbo completely set up with schedules working. I have to be honest, had I known it was going to be so difficult in getting it set up by myself I probably wouldn’t have bought it. My biggest problem with Yarbo’s instruction manuals on the “How To’s” are sorely lacking. I have created my own How To Manual that was written in a manner a Pre-K kid could follow it. Yarbo seems to forget that there are newbies that don’t know the terminology, how to get around in their app (in reality a computer program), and some are not technologically gifted. The YouTube videos go at lightening speed and just hit the very high highlights and a lot of information, such as how you navigate to the area of the program they are demonstrating. As I live in the South, we don’t have snow. So I will put my mower up at the end of the season and drag it back out next year. I know myself well enough that I WILL NOT remember all the ins and outs of the Yarbo App next year. So, this isn’t me being OCD. It’s me being smart enough to take the time to write down the detailed baby steps of how you do the regular and routine processes. So it’s self preservation for me. I have a few scribbled notes that I need to type up to add to my manual as I probably won’t be able to read my hen scratching next year either if I don’t transcribe them. As the pages are pdf’s I can do a word search while on my computer to search what page to go to. And then I can take my hard copy notebook with me out to the mower and do whatever it is that I need to do. Since I have spent a fair amount of money on this thing and all the accessories (motorcycle tent/garage and high velocity fan to help with the battery overheating issues while charging (and when actually mowing) that causes the Yarbo to shut down. Yes. They are well aware of the problem.). And I hope to use this thing for several years to come so I decided to invest the time it has taken to create this manual. The main issue I am having now is the battery overheating and the endless sticks forever falling in my yard. I have used the heck out of this manual in getting things set up, changed, and rethinking how to set up diffeeent areas. Soooooooo……Does anyone sales have to deal with trees and sticks and limbs and what is your solution? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!! :slight_smile:

@sandradonour Good on you!

Taking the time to figure it out and making it easy on yourself for next year.

You are one smart cookie.

I know a lot of 60+ people who just throw their hands up when it comes to technology.

Not you! You put the time and energy into figuring it out and making it easier for yourself going forward!

Way to go!

As for the sticks and leaves…. if you figure something out, please share. I have my fair share of sticks and leaves…..

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

First, regarding the battery overheating issue, with the latest update, we’ve implemented a thermal control strategy for battery charging to reduce the risk of overheating. The battery overheating issue should no longer interfere with Yarbo’s automatic operation.

As for the endless sticks, we recommend opening a new topic in our community forum to discuss this with other users and see if they have any brilliant ideas. Your idea of attaching rakes to an ATV is something other users have also tried, and it’s definitely worth exploring.

Regarding Yarbo’s instruction manual, I apologize for the inconvenience caused. We understand the importance of making the instructions more user-friendly, and we will certainly work on improving them. If you encounter any issues that need specific “how-to” instructions, you can visit the Home | Yarbo Wiki to see if there are any detailed guides. If you don’t find the information you need, please feel free to share your feedback in the forum, and we will review and add relevant content to the Yarbo Wiki.

Thank you for your understanding and valuable suggestions!

@sandradonour - If your notes would be helpful to the community, there is a way to contribute to the Wiki - Home | Yarbo Wiki

Or if they’re something you’d like out there but don’t want to do the document yourself, I or one of the other Wiki contributors would be able to spin them up into a doc and get that published there. It might be some info I could add to the Big README, perhaps.
