Back Brace Mount (BBM)

Starting a thread for this since I think there will be many more use cases for this than just the trimmer. I’m definitely mulling over quick release ballast options. Especially since seeing the one for the M series and plow I’m wondering if Yarbo is too. Noticed on the website than they have some ideas “officially listed”. Or do we think these(2nd battery and rear mount modules) are still mostly dreams like the superdock?

To prevent obscuring of the camera the rear mount battery might either need to be a different design than the original or need a bumper with a way to remount the rear cameras. For use in winter it might help to be insulated too. Heating a battery just hanging out there would be a noticeable increase in power usage…or they could use the current draw on the battery to warm it up while running active plans and leave the rear one colder…:thinking::thinking:

While it would add cost, including cameras in rear add-on modules which would take over for the body mounted cameras, I think would help.

Agreed. All rear mounted modules should have sensors, cameras, bumpers, etc so there is a full line of defense for obstacle avoidance and safety. I would gladly pay for these so it’s more “aware” and integrated vs using a third party towable attachment with the overly long awaited tow mode.

I’d like to see a supplemental mount for the leaf blower that could attach to the BBM first, with an identical mounting plate behind it for the trimmer to mount to the back of the leaf blower. Call it the DSM (doggie-style mount) and run a cable up to the module port on the side of the mower for power and control since they aren’t using those anymore. :stuck_out_tongue:

Being able to have both connected simultaneously would not hurt my feelings at all.

I’m thinking since it’s on a plastic mount with the light and everything included, all it would need is an extension harness and a filler plate for the current location. Then just build the new mounting location solidly into the back brace mount so they know exactly where it will be on the core and then a toggle in the app or something built into the harness to tell the core where it’s current position is. Then all the calculations for positioning using the stereo vision, etc just have an “offset” of some sort that’s used in the programming.

At least it’s not a motorcycle :sweat_smile::sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

Your guys are so ambitious. All I want is for it to cut my yard without running into to stuff and zero-turning the turf to death. I kinda thought that was I what I bought.

Towards the end of summer mine was able to do that ~90-95%. I have one area with a bunch of trees/no go zones it sometimes gets confused in, but it was pretty functional.

Yep. I’m there too, but with a lot of compromises for reliability. The hours spent tweaking are unrealistic for many users. The downright dumb route panning and forcing unneeded zero turns are my biggest issues. What burns me is here we are a season later and nothing has improved.

Congrats on the BBM! Looks really robust and durable. Much better than the original sorta flimsy towing attachment.

Really unfortunate how much it obscured the rear cameras. Oh well. Nothing’s perfect I guess.

They aren’t totally obscured, so I’m sure they’ll have a way to ignore the hitch portion and still work for stereo vision. Will be nice when they combine them for a better rear view in smart vision. I was hoping to leave the hitch on all year long and have a ballast hooked into/onto it

Did you try attaching your tow hitch to the bracket? If so, were the top two holes on your tow hitch partially obscured by the powder coat? On mine, I couldn’t push the bolts through, but it was close enough that I was able to thread them through the holes. Then when I found out you couldn’t have the tow hitch and the trimmer on at the same time  when I removed the tow hitch the bolts came out pretty cleanly…. pulling some powder coat with them…

Actually the back brace doesn’t block the rear camera view much if at all. And even while the trimmer blocks some of the view, it’s not overly objectionable…. At least I don’t think it is…

No that view isn’t terrible, but I would’ve put cameras on any modules that attach to the BBM and override the core rear cameras with it. No obstructions. Nothing to code for. Missed opportunities IMHO. The screws for the tow hitch… Yuck. Needs to be quick attach.

Agree, I’m surprised these fine thread screws are still being used as the attachment solution when it is clearly not ideal or wanted by users. The trimmer attachment is a perfect example of what users didn’t want, with the PPP test hardware, to what they actually want with the QR pins.

Yup, started the bolts easily by hand and then just tightened down with the allen key. Seemed just fine to me.

Yeah definitely degraded views at night…the light is behind the brace/hitch too

This is why I’ve said the accessories/modules that get installed back there should have cameras and override the core rear cameras as the in use rear cameras.
