Chute does not use the orientation for most of the job.
This plan is for the end of the driveway alongside the roadway. In this plan, the chute is expected to point at me (the camera) for the entirety of the area, for the single purpose of keeping any rocks and ice from being sprayed at oncoming cars on that roadway.
Instead, it spends as much time hosing down left-and-right as it does spraying rocks and ice at the oncoming car at the 1:15 mark.
Gaming the allowed throwing-directions to include east/west sides of the area only makes the behavior worse.
This chute logic can not be used near windows, streets, cars and houses. You know, anywhere you would actually use the S1. If there was a structure alongside that area, it would have no glass left.
I recall the chute orientation worked quite well in the last weeks February 2025, but perhaps I am imagining that. But as for now, the logic behind chute orientation is outright dangerous and I’m not finding any work-arounds that aren’t, themselves, quirks.
They did post recently that the perimeter run will throw into the area but outside of that, it should be following the set direction. It should always follow the set snow throw direction IMHO. That’s exactly what it’s for!
The chute direction has always been an issue. I opened a ticket last year and have brought it up multiple times in the forum. Yarbo has not responded to this issue in any meaningful way. I was able to mitigate some of the issues by changing from parallel to circle but that hasn’t fixed the issue.
I can’t tell you how many times people have stopped to ask me about the S1, and M1 but that’s a different story, and if I would recommend it. Then I show them this bug and tell them I wouldn’t recommend getting one. I’m not exaggerating when I say its had to be at least 100 people between last winter and now. They are losing potential sales because of this.
To make it worse, it doesn’t even do what they claim.
Traversing from the end of the perimeter to the start of the parallel would have shredded the windshield of this freakin car. There’s a reason I removed the audio from that video clip, lol.
Does management actually expect people to use this?
I’d be looking at civil, if not criminal, action taken against me if there were the ice and rocks normally left there by the town’s plow.
This cannot be fixed “this winter”. That chute is a f*cking machine gun. It needs to be fixed BEFORE.
Editing the area had no effect on the chute behavior in that area. But the pathway bug (from the A3-A2-A1 post) did change; during the last traversal, it pointed in the proper direction while in A2. Great, except that now it blows hunks of rock at my house when that pathway approaches the dock, since the chute orientation is now ignored at THAT section of the pathway.
I’m going to try to side-walk the some of that perimeter of that apron area, to see if the chute works properly for sidewalks. If that works, then there hopefully won’t be any rocks to throw at any cars when the area starts. I’m not sure how I’ll start sidewalks in an area that hasn’t been cleared yet, but I guess we’ll see.
Hi there, I’m really sorry for the inconvenience caused. We completely understand your concern — the snowblower’s snow-throwing direction algorithm still requires optimization. I’ve spoken with our product team, and they are indeed working on enhancing this feature.
Thanks for taking the time to share this with us, and please feel free to let us know if you have any other observations or suggestions.
I’m not saying I could program all of this but I’m having a hard time understanding how this wasn’t figure out years ago as a core function.
I still haven’t mapped out my driveway because I don’t trust that Yarbo won’t throw into the street or into my car that now is outside. I think that if I do map it out, I’d send out Yarbo and I don’t want my car, or a passing by car, damaged. So for now I guess I’ll wait.
I’m actually more likely to use the controller until things get figured out…hopefully before the snow falls.
The new release is still in the refinement stage, and we truly appreciate your patience while the team works on final improvements. We’ll be sure to share an update as soon as it’s ready.
So overall the aiming is much better with the update. I am still getting some mystery snow by the garage door and service door…. I think I figured it out
So next up we need some configuration options for where the chute is allowed to aim when it can’t aim towards the desired throwing direction. Maybe there could be some optimizations to the route planning but I think there will still be some instances where the front of the rover needs to be oriented away from the throwing direction which limits where the chute can actually aim
Yeah still seems like there are multiple levels of code fighting over where the chute needs to aim. It is still better than it was before but it’ll stop, aim one direction, start going and then turn the wrong direction still…
It was awful prior to this fix. It would throw snow anywhere it wanted. I had to manually do the end of my driveway, else it would pelt passing cars with snow and ice chunks. It is much better now. I can let it do the entire driveway without much intervention. Now they just need to refine it.
Mine zero-turns into the snow bank, gets hung up, the chute swings past, snow falls into the auger and gets launched at the cars still…I’m kinda nervous it’s going to hit the neighbors right across from us
