Camera protectors - new product

So after using my Yarbo for the first real time, I noticed that a lot of the unit had gotten quite dusty (it’s been dry here for a bit) and I noticed a definite layer of dust on the cameras… It got me to wondering, what are the covers for the cameras made of? Polycarbonite? Glass? Depending on what they are made of, simple dust might scratch the cover windows for the cameras just from trying to clean them. If they are made of something that’s not particularly scratch resistant, maybe it would be good to offer some Gorilla Glass overlays for the different cameras? Even if they were just circular “dots” to be stuck over the camera openings, that might be something that can be acquired easily, quickly, and cheaply compared to custom shapes for each one. Also, if they were stick on overlays, if they ever got scratched or damaged, it would be easy to remove and apply new ones to protect the rover’s vision.

Just a thought.

I honestly haven’t had any issues and most of the time I just wipe them with my hand. No clue what the material is but what’s weird is they seem to kinda clean themselves most of the time.

Thanks for the suggestion. For now, we don’t have plans to offer camera protectors, but we appreciate you bringing it up. To clean the cameras, please just use a soft cloth to avoid scratching.

You can go to a craft store and buy a piece of thin clear vinyl. Back in the PalmPilot days I used that for a screen protector. If you are really concerned with it, you could try that. I don’t think it is really needed. A quick hose rinse and a wipe and it’s good to go.

My concern rose from the fact that I didn’t know what the current camera cover lenses were made of and if they were an easily scratchable material. If they were some kind of plastic I would be a little concerned, but if they were made of tempered glass I wouldn’t really be concerned at all.

Thanks for your question. After confirming with our team, the camera cover lenses are made of tempered glass. So you shouldn’t need to worry about them being easily scratched.
