Can old firmware cause GPS issues?

I heard back from support, and they are indicating the firmware mismatch is a likely issue. They should be pushing down the latest one soon. If that fixes it, great. If not, at least it rules out one thing.

Fingers crossed for you. Hopefully it’s as simple as a firmware update!

Thanks for keeping us updated. I’ve asked the support team to look into your case as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience while we work on resolving this for you.

If you look at the base of the antenna there is an O ring. I assumed this would achive all of those goals.

So, great news. I finally got the firmware updated! I ran a mowing plan, and it did drop GPS in similar areas again, BUT this time it did recover after a few minutes, so a little better. However, now a new thing: I’m getting an error about “abnormal IMU data detected”, which I’ve never gotten before. I tried a “soft” reboot (via the app), and the error came right back when trying to resume the plan. I then shut down and pulled the battery connection, and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Of course, during that time it started raining so I didn’t want to resume the plan. I plugged it back in and sent it to the charger, and it made it without error. I’m assuming the error was related to the firmware update, but until the rain stops, I won’t know if it’s resolved.

I’ve had times where a full reboot by unplugging the battery was needed to fix an issue. So it’s quite possible that the reboot solved things for you.

Please keep us posted. Hopefully it’s smooth sailing for you now.

I assumed it was more for the core side of the connection and to prevent water wicking up into the connector itself. Don’t think an internal o ring would help with the anti vibration and loosening protection though since there’d be no resistance on the antenna base connection.

I got the plan running again, and it’s about 1/4 of the way done without the error coming back. Hope this is it! Next step is to mow my really large side yard that had lots of GPS issues last week. I may have to wait a few days though, the grass is a bit wet.

Yea, for sure wait for things to dry out. Hopefully it’ll be worth the wait!

Mine seems to in cycles, I have had 3 different days that the mower was indicating it was 10 feet north east of its actual position. The last time it snapped back after a reboot, but I had to stop a plan because it was going way off course. This happened before and after the update, and after I had to replace the GPS antennas due to running its self into a brush pile.

Hi there, feel free to keep us updated if you still have the issue when you have the chance to test it further. We’re here to help!

I started mowing my large side yard yesterday, and I had better results but still keep dropping GPS. Mostly, it’s in areas where it might be expected, but it lost it in a few open areas too. It mowed all night (it calculates at over 9 hours, but has to charge several times). This morning, I noticed a lot of missed stripes (a couple of inches wide). I sent it back to dock to charge for a bit, and got a map drift error, so I had to kill the plan to resolve it. I’m not sure if there’s anything else we can do. Has anyone had success with different/higher gain antennas or something like that maybe?

Check it after the hotfix rolls out. You should have it today.

This is new. I rebooted the core, and now it thinks it’s perpendicular to the pad (while sitting on the pad charging fine).

What are your diags looking like currently?

What is your version?

I went to check versions, and it has now corrected its orientation. App is v3.18.3, and firmware must have updated while it was sitting there, it shows the new hotfix (v3.13.3).

Glad to hear it. Yeah usually map drift is just a temporary condition where the GPS hasn’t fully converged. If time or a reboot doesn’t clear it, then it’s real. Could’ve been updating when you were looking at it. Might explain the weird conditions.

Yeah, really could have been it. I’ve had the regular drift notification, and many times after a reboot the rover shows in the middle of my yard somewhere, then “jumps” to the right place (on the dock).

I will say though, today GPS has been horrid. I don’t know if it’s because of the overcast clouds, but I’ve had a bunch of “waiting for GPS signal to recover” while sitting in the middle of a wide-open yard. Recovery did happen eventually though.

Sometimes a complete reboot of the system can help with this. Unplug the DC power and battery cable for 5 mins. Then plug the DC in, and then turn on the core. Not sure what your PPVS settings are, but bumping them up some too can help. GPS certainly would take a hit with overcast skies.
