Can old firmware cause GPS issues?

Im going to guess the problem isnt fixed and your yarbo is just getting lucky in reduced navigation. I assume you still dont see L2 value for the Rover RTK value. Would you mind sharing the diagnostics screen while its green and “working”. I bet its still 0.

I’ll give the full reboot a try again, I think the last time I did it was prior to the firmware update (to v3.13.1). Screenshots below are with a solid “green” for GPS, but sitting on the charger. First was taken like 2 minutes before the second. I have seen L2 higher, like 7 I think at times was the most. I know HDOP will get into the hundreds when it’s waiting for GPS recovery.

Do you have an open ticket? Those numbers are way off. Could be a hardware issue like one of the RTK antennas is going bad.

Yes, opened prior to getting firmware updated though. It’s #191554. I’m going to update it now.

And sitting here watching it, HDOP is jumping up over 60 and then down in high 50s without anything moving.

How obstructed is your dock?

Looks like mine almost exactly. Even the -2 heading. Have you manually cleared the cache on the core this season? I haven’t tried this yet but maybe updates all winter long messed with this? Im totally stumped… was really excited having everything done/ready for this second season with it but its starting just last my last… weeks of no yarbo at the peak of grow season… and still no trimmer for me either fuuuuuuuuu

Same for me. I had great luck with the snowblower over the Winter (other than when it shredded a belt and killed its motor - I got a full replacement that was great). I only got a small test of the mower last year (I ordered in the Fall and the the Pro Mower took a bit to arrive). This is actually my second core, the first one became a mouse nest, likely very shortly before I attempted to switch out the Winter treads and snowblower. I did get it kind of working again with some spliced wires, but one wire was unrepairable. This core came with firmware v3.11.0, and I just got it updated a day ago. I did run the old core with mowing and it worked a lot better, go figure.

I’ve never heard of clearing the cache on the core. Is that something common required? How do you even do that?

@bryan.wheeler Not obstructed at all. I could drive out to open area in my yard if that matters. The dock is probably a little closer to a building that it should be, but not much. GPS would usually lock in within a few seconds of me connecting to the core via the app.

Middle of my back yard, nothing around for probably 100 feet in any direction:

L2 did bounce to “2” a few times, then back to 0.

Looks to me like it’s possibly your right side antenna. If you have a spare, maybe swap it in. Otherwise, it looks good. Lots of good total satellites, quality, RTK status 4, and a good HDOP. Just heading and L2 are off. Which makes sense if the right side is having issues. That’s right as you face the rear of the core.

I don’t have a spare, unfortunately. I could try with the one on the datacenter, but that would probably introduce other issues. At least though, it should help indicate if the antenna is bad for some reason.

You could also wait for support to reach the same conclusion and send you one. I would hesitate to touch a working DC. Assuming that it has good CNR values.

Yeah. I can try swapping them on the rover, see if the issue follows the the antenna. On the DC, I do get a decent CNR, but for some reason I never see to get any (or very few) Galileo satellites.

I don’t either. But I assume you aren’t in Europe. So shouldn’t matter.

No, Western NY (US). Of course, after saying that, I just checked, and am getting this:

Note that it’s pouring rain here right now too.

That’s really good for pouring rain. I don’t think your problem is related to the DC at this point.

That’s good at least. I would have been surprised if it was, as it hasn’t budged in any way since being installed last Fall.

Swapped the antennas (left/right) on the rover and drove out to about the same place as before. Now showing like this once everything went green:

L2 did bounce down to 3 a few times, but never went to 0 until I was driving it near some trees on the way back to the dock.

That’s a definite change. I’d get some spare RTK antennas if I were you and swap both out.

I can do that, wouldn’t hurt. Any idea what could cause an antenna to just go bad? It’s not like they’re old (got my Yarbo in November) or took a beating. Can removing them without powering off the core damage them?
