Dandelions? Is my Yarbo scared of a few dandelions?

T’is the season in my region. 6" stems with bright yellow flowers can pop up in about 24 hours. I was using Yarbie regularly to lop off the heads. But then I noticed he was diverting around a “concentrated” area of flowers. Maybe 4 stems in a square foot. I suspect it deduced that these were hazardous objects to avoid. What should/could I do? I don’t want him to turn into a bull dozer and run over anything and everything, but I also don’t need him acting like the Lion in the Wizard of Oz.

Gentle contact and No go zones around stuff you don’t want cut or smashed is your game to play to cut dandelions.

Gentle contact with NGZ’s is the most reliable way for the robot to execute a plan.

You could also consider a vision zone for the troublesome areas (either to turn off vision where the mound of flowers is, or to turn it on in areas where you want to use vision instead of making NGZ’s.)

Above is an example of the dandelion stem scaring off Yarbie from maintaining the cutting pattern. In this case, it’s three naked stems. I have a dozen of them on the lawn. Compared to the marketing images showing a cut of tall grass down to a perfect lawn, this seems like a false hazard being detected.

I will test your suggestion.

I may need to control the weeds a little more, too :joy:

Frequent routine cutting and some good weed killer goes a long way.
