I’m not sure if this is in the right area, but I’m planning on putting my docking station on pavers because I don’t have a non-muddy flat area for it. I just was curious as to what size/type of drill bit to use for installing the expansion bolts? I’m not seeing anything indicating needed whole size.
I would suggest a temporary installation as a trial run until you have had ample time to observe Yarbo’s behavior with the docking station placed as you intend.
It may be that you will need to adjust the positioning of the dock to get things dialed in just right, so I wouldn’t mount it permanently until you’re sure the location works well with Yarbo.
I agree with @rgloverii. Use the ground spikes temporarily and see how things work. I mounted mine this way and just put pavers in front of it.
I’ll 3rd that
You can use a hammer drill with a 2/5 inch (10 mm) drill bit to make the holes for installing the expansion bolts.
Would someone care to let me know where we can get a 2/5” drill? ![]()
In all seriousness, that’s not a standardly available size. The closest fractional equivalent is 25/64”. The next nearest size is 13/32”, and after that is 7/16”. Just keep in mind that as you go through those sizes the whole is getting slightly larger than the base 10mm.
I do have it on grass now. The issue is there is a very slight dip at the bottom of the dock, and a slight slope the ground. Both are very minimal, but it’s enough for the snow blower module to catch some, and the rover have difficulty getting on the pad when it’s at all wet. Plus the mud in the front. I was thinking of putting pavers just in front to see if that works. I have a couple laying around, and if that works I won’t have to buy more for the whole base.
Sacrifice the grass under the pad and dig it up/out if you can. I put a little sprinkle of gravel underneath to give it something to grab onto and screwed it into the lawn. Level is key.
Grass is already sacrificed. If I was going pavers, I’d be digging out a little bit anyway to level it (and get the pavers to not be sitting up too high).
It’s pretty much a mud pit in front of my docking station.
I have a mud/dirt pit too. I’ve been lazy and haven’t done pavers for Yarbo yet.
I resemble that remark!
I basically had no choice once it started digging a trench in the mulch bed in front of the dock. Good news is, it made for some easy digging out for the pavers.
Exactly! Yarbo has already done half the work by digging the mud pit! lol
