Expanding map

Howdy there Yarbo brain trust. Need to help in trying to expand my existing map. I created a smaller map to start, but have an ellipse driveway. Now that we’ve had a thaw I want to extend my current map without remapping the whole driveway. So far I’ve been frustrated as I get the GPS signal issue with the garage and have resorted to restoring the old map.

I suggest extending the driveway slowly, in chunks.

So let’s say you have a bunch of new areas you want to add to the overall driveway map. Instead of going around and trying to add them all at once, add the areas in multiple smaller chunks to increase the success in adding them. Make sense?

Also, for the GPS signal problem next to your garage door - Do that area last. And stand farther away from Yarbo when you do it, to minimize the chances that your body is contributing to the GPS signal issue. I personally ended my driveway zone about 2.5 feet from the actual garage door because I know GPS gets weak there and I want to minimize the possibility that Yarbo would ever get lost and bump into the garage doors.

Hope this helps. Good luck, and let us know how things work out.

I agree with Robert. It might be worth mapping the pieces you want to extend as separate areas. Makes it easier and gives you options to tweak those areas differently as needed. Changing the geometry of the area (adding to the map) will definitely change the planned pattern. I would also recommend increasing your PPVS for mapping by 5-10FT if you need to get through that garage section. Run the plan afterwards and make sure it executes that poor GPS areas properly after. You can also sometimes tackle that from a different direction and get better signal. If you can 180 in that space and recover GPS signal, it might be worth trying a different direction for plan execution. I drop GPS by my garage too, but once it turns I get it back, even briefly is enough for it to reset the PPVS counter and keep things oriented properly and in bounds.

I have the problem as Robert with the GPS when I mapped my driveway in the summer. I had to leave about 3 feet from the garage door as far as the front wheel of that truck because of the GPS signal. Are you say we can add to the existing map or remap the whole driveway and increase the PPVS?

You can certainly try that. I wouldn’t go too far with it. I’d wait for a very clear sky good GPS day and try and map during a good time of day where you have less problems with GPS. It’s going to be easier in the winter due to foliage being off the trees. Assuming you aren’t surrounded by evergreens.

Hi there, thanks for sharing the details of your situation.

As others have suggested, you can try increasing the PPVS setting to a higher value and see if that helps complete the mapping near the garage. If you’re able to successfully finish drawing the map, it’s also a good idea to run a test plan afterward to make sure everything executes correctly in that area.

Thank you. I may add another map next to the garage door and increase the PPVS. if that does not look good, then I will remap again when the weather is clear.

Thank you

Be careful when expanding the PPVS. There will be increased possibility that Yarbo may stray to an undesired location.

If it was me, I’d increase the values slowly until you get sustained successful results. Only give it the minimum necessary.

Yes I would totally start with creating that as its own map just to see and like Robert mentioned be careful with those settings. Too much is not a good thing, hence making sure it’s accurate when it executes afterwards. Running it a few times as a test run during controlled and different weather conditions will help you gain confidence in its ability to run that section autonomously unmonitored.

I agree. This will an incremental increase of PPVS. Thanks

I think creating an additional map is a good idea because the original map is not bad and I have tried it many times, except when Yarbo gets close to the door. I usually shovel that area by hand. Adding a new map will not delete the original map if I decide to keep both maps or delete the new map. Thanks

If they both work great for you, hopefully one day there will be a merge map feature and if you wanted to, could combine them.
