I’d like to request a few important enhancements to the map editing and work area management UI, particularly focusing on improving usability across devices and streamlining the mapping experience for more complex properties.
1. Improve Mobile Map Editing (Inspired by Diagrams.net)
Currently, drawing and editing shape templates—especially no-go zones—on mobile devices is quite challenging. The UI lacks precision tools for:
Rotating shapes
Resizing with accuracy
Nudging elements into exact positions
Apps like Diagrams.net (formerly draw.io) offer a much more intuitive experience, even on small touchscreens. Adopting similar interaction features—such as drag handles, tap-to-rotate, and snap-to-grid—would make the Yarbo mobile editor much more user-friendly and accessible for fine adjustments. Example:
For larger or more complex properties, a desktop interface would be a major improvement. Tasks like:
Editing large no-go zones and paths
Reviewing or modifying multi-zone layouts
Troubleshooting odd pathing or gaps are far easier to accomplish with a keyboard, mouse, and larger display.
Whether it’s a downloadable desktop app or a browser-based map editor, giving users this option would be a game-changer for usability and precision.
Summary
To improve Yarbo’s map editing workflow, I suggest:
A more intuitive mobile UI, similar to Diagrams.net
A dedicated desktop or web-based map editor for power users
These enhancements would significantly reduce frustration and improve control for all users, especially those managing larger or more intricate properties.
Thank you for sharing your detailed insights on the map editing UI. Regarding the mobile editing improvements, I’ll pass your suggestions along to our UX engineer for review. As for a desktop interface, we’ve discussed this with our product team before, and unfortunately, it’s not something we plan to develop in the short term.
We really appreciate your thoughtful feedback and the time you took to outline these ideas. Thanks again for helping us improve!
I’d like to reiterate….. having a desktop app to tweak or add-on to an already created Map would be extremely helpful and would increase useability / save time for the end-user. Having to map/follow the yarbo around any time you want to add another map layer / plan is time consuming and tedious.
I will also take the opportunity to add another request for a desktop or web based interface to edit maps.
As one particularly awkward situation with the current interface, I would like to edit a section of my driveway to remove a corner where snow has piled up, and Yarbo can no longer operate. However, of course, I can’t drive Yarbo through that section to edit the map.
I’m surprised that the product team has outright rejected the possibility of this development.
Have you tried just dropping a templated No Go Zone there in the corner? You can actually use those to tweak your map and make straighter lines, etc. Assuming it doesn’t bump into another area.
I did try that. It seemed to no longer want to throw snow in the direction of the no-go zone (which is where I actually want the snow to be thrown). When I created a rectangular NGZ to square up one of the edges, and used a circular pattern for the area, it went to great lengths to zig-zag back and forth up to the no-go zone instead of running a nice path along the edge.
Has anybody else had that issue with no-go zones and throwing direction (not throwing into the NGZ)?
It’s supposed to not throw snow there, but I’ve also seen it completely ignore that sometimes too. Would certainly be nice to have a no throw zone toggle on NGZ’s and no throw zones that you could draw like a NGZ.
