We have snow coming tomorrow and I’m setting up my Snowblower for its maiden voyage. My (very long) driveway is paved but it has seen better days, and in particular there’s one big bump about the size of a Yarbo that wreaks havoc on plows and vehicles in general. I assume the Yarbo can figure out how to get around it, but I assume that it will slam into it a few times before it sorts things out. It’s small enough that I don’t think I want to set it up as a no-go zone because I want the rest of that area cleared out.
Obviously I haven’t tested it out yet, I wanted to see if there was anything I could consider doing ahead of time. If I put, say, a big orange cone over the bump, would the Yarbo be smart enough to go around it but still clear the area in general? Open to any suggestions!
Obstacle avoidance right now is only for vehicles. It should work through any bumps and imperfections. It will spin the tracks a bit and try a few times before raising the module height enough to get by. I’d say try it and see. Worst case you have to put a small no go zone around it and use a sidewalk to clean it up (maybe coming at it from a different angle).
Hi there! You can try a test run to see how Yarbo handles the driveway. During the test, you can temporarily disable the auger in the work plan to avoid scraping or throwing snow while you observe its behavior.
At the moment, the Yarbo snow blower cannot detect objects like large cones. The visual detection only applies to people, animals, and vehicles within the work area, so we don’t recommend placing a cone on the bump.
After the test, feel free to share your results here—we’d love to hear how it goes!
it might just be a “no go” zone and you manually address this area.
However, I also have a spot on my driveway that requires some “thinking” to sort out. It’s a raised piece of concrete which is about 1/3 my driveway length that bisects in the middle of my driveway (so a big lip aboutn 1.5- 2 inch) going up the center).
What i have done is use “slope mode” so I can define the direction that yarbo maps, and instead of drawing the line straight down the driveway, I placed it at an angle to the center. This causes yarbo to draw lines that allow it to approach this lip from an angle as opposed to straight on. It could hit the lip straight on and get over it, but I didn’t want it ramming into the lip everytime.
sidewalks will pass through no-go areas as long as the beginning and end are outside of it…although at one point I think that was discouraged but I have 2 that do in front of my wifes parking spot and one that wraps around the drivers side. Sometimes she parks too close to the garage for it to be able to navigate successfully
Thanks for all the suggestions. During the first attempt, the Yarbo got itself stuck on top of the bump and I had to rescue it. I tried creating a no-go zone around it but my app is currently crashing every time I try to zoom in on the map, so I can no longer set up no-go zones at the moment. I’ll have to reinstall the app to see if that fixes it, and revisit.
@marriott001 I started experimenting with slope mode, but the dimensions of my driveway don’t let me reliably draw an arrow in the app - I planned on filing a feature request / feedback item to see how to get around this (see photo).
I didn’t realize that the mode took into account the angle of the arrow; that’s good to know.
