How often do you grease the tracks?

Like the title says, how often are you greasing the tracks…honestly. I’m curious what people are actually doing. Do you wait until you remember, do you schedule a reminder, do you wait unit you hear clicking, do you wait until you happen to notice they’re dry.

I noticed my winter tracks seemed really dry when I removed them recently. I greased them in November when I installed them then again in January. Yarbo ran multiple sessions on the driveway but I wouldn’t say it was a lot. I was definitely surprised how dry they were with little use during winter.

They recommend every 2 weeks with regular use. I’ll be honest and say that I only do it once every few months. I know people who don’t do it at all. I think it depends on your environment really. I know @rcguymike probably should grease more frequently based on the wear he posted. TBH, I’ve never seen that level of wear and it has to be from all the ice I’m sure.

We recommend greasing the tracks every two weeks.

No problem in the summer, but how are people greasing the tracks in the winter?

This goes back to the request regarding having maintenance notifications based on usage.

What if I don’t get snow or its dry and I don’t mow for two weeks. Why would I need to grease in that case?

You have to ideally let it thaw in the garage and then apply the grease. Otherwise, clean out the tracks of snow and ice really well and then apply. I use a grease gun that has a hose and an open ended nozzle and just squirt some grease down the bottom center of the track, move the machine forward until the bottom is now on top and repeat. Takes about 2 mins of my time.

I’m super curious to see what the interior of my winter tracks look like when I swap them out for the summer tracks.

What should I expect in terms of any signs of wear?

Hi there, thanks for bringing this up. The biweekly greasing recommendation is based on a regular usage scenario. If the machine hasn’t been used for a period of time—for example, if there’s no snow or mowing activity for a couple of weeks—the maintenance needs may naturally vary.

Regarding your suggestion about maintenance notifications based on actual usage, we’ve previously shared this feedback with our product team. We really appreciate you bringing it up again, as it helps reinforce the value of this idea. Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve been using a flux brush and the tub of silicone grease, having a grease gun and either a zerk that comes out by the rear wheel or a needle tip with a way to slowly jog Yarbo forward would be a lot easier. Good upgrade project for some Yarbo interns to do:grin:

Yes I have suggested zerk fittings and an auto luber many times.

Could they offer a option for a remote greasing unit that you could trigger from software I hav a idea on how to mount and route to grease tracks if they are interested

I definitely think it’s worth sharing with them. You could always email it to them or drop it here.

Well a peace of cooper tubing mounted to body bring it to inside of track split and send stream to both sides of inside of track at same time do same thing for other side mount a grease fittings on top end take 2x4 under to raise tracks off ground engage tracks and pump grease for 2 revolutions done

@Fuzzy modded his track plates to be taller and included a zerk fitting with a tube to dispense it like this. I would love to see a factory option for this and you just insert a tube of grease and it does it on its own.

Auto luber would be great but they may have some issues with trying time and control application because they would have to have a time adjustment for run cycle that is necessary for different climates

To grease my tracks I’d got ahold of a 60ml catheter tipped syringe and load that up with a load of grease. Then I just squeeze out and dab each track with about 10ml of product.
