Implement a North Facing Map Orientation as a Default

Consider orienting the default Yard Map display such that the top center of the screen is North (0 degrees). That seemed to have been the case in app versions prior to V3.16.0. However, that is not the case in the current version. Of course the user should continue to be free to rotate, and zoom to their liking.

I really dislike this new dynamic orientation based on which way the rover is facing or traveling. North up should be an option that can be permanently set.

Agreed, new map orientation is driving me batty. Give user the option to choose between:

  • north is up
  • yarbee forward is up (auto-rotate map like Google Maps perspective driving mode view)
  • rotate freely

I’m trying to understand the logic for the current map orientation. I think it’s - map up is yarbee forward direction when first opening the map and then it sticks.

curious how the decision was made to switch map orientation? Did someone ask for that?

Someone moved my cheese.

Wow. I am all dizzy. My head is spinning each time I take a look at the map!

we still have unwanted zero turns everywhere and no map split, and yet they create a tornado in the app…

@Yarbo-Forum time for a hotfix. Bring back the previous map view! You’ll have your clients break their hips because they fell after watching the map spinning! :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Hi Alvin, thank you for sharing your feedback. You’re right — the recent update introduced some changes to the default Yard Map orientation. I’ll make sure to pass along your preference to our product team so they can take it into consideration.

Please make the default as it was.

Thank you!

All my areas are very oldy shaped due to our property, so it really makes it a pain to figure out what area I need to click on to make a change or look at settings. I have to think about the map for a few seconds before I can continue. My Yarbo sleeps pointing west so it is always rotated.

I agree, Eric! I have odd shaped areas also. So, when Yarbo is executing a work plan, the “Yarbee forward” orientation throws me off sometimes when trying to figure out where it is within an area. The stripe angle rotation adds to the fun of locating Yarbo on the map.

I have found the north facing map orientation across the app to be easier to work with. I have since learned with V3.16.0, to first rotate the yard map in a notherly direction before targeting the Yarbo. That helps me better visualize its location.

When docked, my Yarbo faces south, so my yard map appears upside down as soon as I start the app…that’s a great way to start a session (sarcasm off)

Seems if you double tap the map it goes to North up. Did anyone mention that?

Ken,

Thanks for discovering that! It sure beats rotating the map. You’re the first to mention it.
