I am currently waiting for the mower module. Can I map my yard with the smart assist module ahead of time or do I need to wait for the mower?
You can map now with the Smart Assist Module!
My recommendation is to do some basic mapping now, to get your feet wet and learn more about how Yarbo works. Have fun! Enjoy, and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions
When you get your mower attachment, you’ll probably want to re-map the mowing zones with the mower attached, so the entire robot’s size is taken into account for things like the lawn’s borders and no go zones.
I was just going to say the same thing. The mower adds another 2 feet in the front. You’re going to end up re-mapping with the mower on it. Doing a test run to get used to the process and seeing if you have any GPS issues anywhere won’t hurt.
Just going to echo what @rgloverii and @JNS already said. Learn, play, figure things out. But use the module you intend to use that area for to map. Also make sure when you map that you keep the right antenna along the boundary lines of perimeters and NGZ’s. In other words the left antenna, as you face the rear of the core, should be inside the area. This is the primary antenna and it keeps it away from walls, fences, and other obstacles that impact accurate gps signals. If you map it reverse of that, it can be fine, but yarbo will execute the auto plan the way I described no matter if you mapped it the other way.
Why wouldn’t it use the center of the unit and apply an offset depending upon installed module?
In theory it does but there are edge cases where it might not account for it.
Here is what I’ve noticed. When I mapped my driveway for instance with the SAM, and then hooked up the snow blower there were a ton of settings that didn’t get set with the SAM that the snow blower needs. Like which way to blow the snow. Those settings can’t be set when mapped with the SAM. You’ll need to adjust those settings once the snow blower is attached.
At first it seemed weird to me that you had to set which direction to blow the snow on the grass areas too. Which after thinking about it, I guess it kind of needs to know that. The instructions in the app are semi-clear when you try to run the snow blower.
I don’t remember the exact verbiage, but I feel like something was lost in translation.
