"known good locations" for poor quality GPS areas

I was struggling to map some trees etc for no go zones and thought, “trees rarely move, why couldn’t we label/use them as known trusted locations for verifying PPVS location while GPS is weak? IDK if it’s the current geomagnetic activity but I only have a couple spots up in front of my house that I can get a quality lock, and only 1 barely useful spot in the whole backyard. I even tried cheating into the neighbors yard a bit to get clear of the tree lines…currently I don’t think I can get more than 50% of the yard mowed without constant intervention.

The next step for PPVS is to utilize VIO which will do exactly that, use the cameras to look at objects like trees to keep it on track. And indeed this year is extremely active for solar activity. It’s been some rough days for GPS quality as a result. The best advice I can offer is to try at different times of the day when the sun isn’t directly behind the satellites. You can ask AI when the best time to use RTK based mowers in your area to get a feel for it. I’ve found most of my GPS pauses happen from 11AM to 1PM. Especially on higher geomagnetic activity days.

Well that explains why I consistently get weaker signals at the exact same time of day

:exploding_head:

well….theres that…

Well that’s no good at all.

Oh, sorry to see that. :frowning:

Hope there’s no damage. This is like my worst nightmare.

Thankfully, none of my robots have ever gone rogue (yet).

Oh boy!!! Definitely no bueno, so far this is the worst that happened to me…I was mowing with gentle contact and PPVS settings maxed:sweat_smile::sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

Luckily no sand toys or children were harmed :joy:

I would definitely dial those settings back. I hope they expand these settings to areas and not globally. That way you can tweak the problem areas lower or higher depending on safety.

Problem arises when there is a brief outage of gps signal and it has to rely on other means to get around. Bigger no go zones doesn’t do anything. One time it ventured out into the street, luckily no one was driving around.

You should throttle the PPVS thresholds down if it is exceeding boundaries and no go zones. Start small and increase it as needed.

Hi there,

As Bryan mentioned, VIO is the next step we’re working on to improve Yarbo’s navigation when GPS signals are weak.

I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’ve experienced with Yarbo moving into those zones. In the meantime, you can try adjusting the PPVS settings and lowering the travel distance. This may help reduce the recurrence of such problems.

We’ll continue improving this feature in future updates, and we really appreciate your feedback.
