That’s a risky position to be in, as you know. I’m not being snarky when I say this -
Return the unit, and reevaluate next season. There is no chance in heck that they will resolve any of the points you’ve raised before your return-window runs out. They won’t even fix the typo by then. Send it back.
You’ve got your feet wet enough with this (don’t forget to take notes of what you ran into) to know if what they’ve fixed by next season will work for you, or if it’ll just be more of the same.
If HD Moore’s tools are correct, they’re running a docker setup on Ubuntu. The GPS “set angle error” would probably be a bug with the nav routine in the module’s container utterly botching the pass-thru to the core GPS/position/heading process, which is hosted outside of that container. Maybe there’s a race condition when they try to lock it to write a new position and heading. “GetAngleError” with 15 L2s and a HDOP of 0.4. Whatever, you know the rest. Might as well be an Oracle product.
Send it back, hire the neighbor’s brat kid to mow if you can, and if so inclined, re-eval next season. Hopefully a bunch of things will be better solved by then, because despite all the warts, I do love this thing. But I’m also inclined to treat it as a hobby. You can buy a lot of other hobbies for 7500.
I committed many software and hardware atrocities when I was a kid. Dark days, those were, when pins were zinc coated and some things got reprogrammed with an axe.
Anyway, I tend to be ok at reverse engineering dead things that were recently reprogrammed with an axe, which means I’m good at coming to the completely wrong conclusion about things that need reprogramming.
Still looking for a COM port to see if I can reverse engineer that thing with a hammer, but I don’t see any easily accessible port… and packet sniffing did not help (not sure if there is some sort of encryption but I can’t figure out what is being transmitted). No luck also with SSH on port 21… Might give it more time this winter when I don’t need the robot to run almost 24/7
There’s a bunch of USB dongles if you roll the cover forward, and I think I saw one naked USB C port. Maybe not. Dunno if it’d mount drivers if you stuff a hub with keyboard and vid card onto it, though.
