Mini-mower for smaller areas and to complement the mowing of the Yarbo M1 / Pro

Mini / Small version of the mower to complement the mowing that is done by the full-sized Yarbo mowers (M1, Pro)

Customer complaints often talk about the inability of the current mower to get into tight spaces or to mow small yards effectively.

  • For very small lawns, Yarbo’s size can be a barrier to a sale. This isn’t Yarbo’s fault, it’s a case of a tool too big for the job.
  • For getting into tight areas and corners, the workaround is often to use Deadends, which can be a little tricky and can leave tracks. Deadends also can’t mow to the very end with a clean cut.

A smaller, simpler mower model could fill that gap. In looking at lower-end mowers on the market, many have narrow decks, are very quiet, and have a simple drive system. They still use GPS. What if such a mower configuration could be developed by Yarbo to:

  • Handle very small yards, such as small front yards where the current rover is just too big
  • Be narrow and low enough to get into tight spots and trim under bushes (most of the competitors look like grotesque eggs or something – they’re not getting under anything to do clean-up)
  • Be a complement to the rover:
    – Determining what parts of the mowing map the rover cannot get to and doing that clean-up work; there would be a capability to coordinate with the standard rover/mower, perhaps sharing a Data Center and/or map
    – Do some trimming in tight spaces and under bushes
    – Do tight turns around objects to trim around them
    – Get in closer to the Area boundaries where the Trimmer cannot be used because the rover can’t get in there

The Mini-mower would:

  • Be a…
    – small mower
    – a complement to the rover’s mowing as a clean-up partner where the rover can’t go
    – a trimmer
  • Be simpler
  • Be less expensive
  • Use a lot of the current technology Yarbo has developed and is developing (is there a reason to use LIDAR?)
  • Expand the brand: Be a standalone entry into the Yarbo community for those who have less property to maintain for whom a quality small mower that has good runtime and can mow at night quietly would be beneficial.
  • Get additional use out of previously owned hardware :asterisk:
    – Could be purchased standalone or added to an existing Data Center (to share maps/coordination with an existing rover)
    – A rover could be added to a Mini-mower configuration to begin sharing/coordinating

Not sure how to create something that is both narrow to do clean-up and to be able to get under somewhere to trim. Perhaps the cutting deck can shift over a few inches under the shrubs as the mini-mower drives by (there’s your patent, Yarbo - mention me in the application, please), or the wheels can be turned allow the rover to point the mowing deck under some shrubs and move along them (or use omni-wheels?).

:asterisk: There are HaLow limitations that would need to be worked out if sharing a Data Center, unless multiple Data Centers can be coordinated and share mapping data.

Congrats on the Lymow. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

So far, I’ve been able to resist the urge to order one. Too many robotic toys already.

Honestly I would not have ordered one if I knew back then Yarbo would make a Pro model with real blades. I knew my lawn was not perfect for a razor blade system, my yard is much too wet, the type of grass and the type of soil. I have dewy wet grass all the time. So one way to fix it is a bladed mower, and another mower to maximize my cutting time when the sun is out in full force.

I will say I am surprised how well the M1 cuts, but it is a lot of maintenance cleaning the wet grass deck. I hope with blades that will be reduced some.

It’s funny. I just mentioned this in the PPP group. I called it a parasitic mower that would detach from the core like a little rat and go do cleanup duty and then reattach while the bigger mower does the bulk of the work out in the open. Since the small one is light and agile, no worries with tight turns, zero turns, etc.

And yes, an offset deck somewhat like an offset flail mower would be awesome to get under stuff. I got a ditch line that Yarbo can’t handle without throwing a track. If this deck could articulate sideways and up it would be able to stay on the flat ground and mow the piece that the core can’t get.

Really appreciate your idea as a potential product development direction for Yarbo. I’ll share this with our product team for their consideration!
