How much does the system rely on the cameras to locate, park and recharge? The docking station is very muddy and docking takes forever.
Not at all. Relies on the magnetic sensors predominantly with some GPS. Only uses the cameras in the pathway to check for obstacles blocking its way.
*For now, hopefully soon we get that vision assisted docking they teased us with![]()
Right after tow mode…
You guys just keep waiting, maybe when they get to the P series some of this promised stuff might work. I am still waiting for that big update that will help snowblowing, and AI vision, and tow mode, and my trimmer, and……..
With a wet or muddy dock, mine takes twice as long to dock as when dry. It overshoots multiple times when doing it’s left/right jogs because the tracks slide.
Yes, mine too.
I’m almost a little disappointed they included Lidar…hoping that doesn’t mean they’re going to be splitting resources between lidar based navigation and vision based…vision should be plenty capable…unless they’re going to give us all free lidar updates… with it being top mounted I’m not even sure how great it’ll be, there will be a region near the core that the lidar can’t reach, just like how Tesla ended up adding bumper cams on the latest hardware iterations…and then also camera cleaners![]()
I fear this abandonment on vision (VIO and VSLAM) too. I hope they don’t, because both are desperately needed and will help both platforms. Even if lidar is added. But it will really help if it’s not available. I also hope that they offer lidar upgrade options for the Y series.
They’ll learn Tesla’s lesson. How do you resolve conflicting data from multiple sensor methodologies
I’d rather they stick with vision and refine it.
Set priorities for the more trusted inputs (like bumper) and if 2 out of 3 agree, it’s true. If 1 out of 3 agree, it’s false.
You make it sound so simple ![]()
It’s always simple for the guy that doesn’t have to actually do it! ![]()
Is it slipping or is it just not able to read the magnets?
Also, who flagged this as solved? I certainly didn’t.
I see that happening already, anyone notice how slow updates are coming now for firmware? It sure is not because everything is working, or working perfectly…..
It slips I’ve stood there multiple times watching it overshoot. I so want to kick the ass end back over that 1/2”. It hasn’t failed to dock and eventually finds home, but after many more attempts than when dry.
Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. I have some major work going on in the field where the mower lives/works. I’ll be moving the dock and will clean it then and see if there is any improvement.
It does this with snow/ice build up too, almost like they stop listening to sensors and run pre-programmed track movements based on the magnet data. It’s…odd…IMU/vision feedback would help immensely. My dock is in a marginal RTK position though but it sounds like even those with it in perfect locations still have occasional issues
I was in follow me mode yesterday towing a lawn cart behind me and all of a sudden it just ran off on its own right up the hill and through all kinds of mud and got stuck.. lol no clue what happened but it was doing pretty good and then all the sudden it just took a hard right and kept going until it was 6” deep in mud, that was fun.. ![]()
