My Yarbo is on an Extended Staycation – Can We Update the Firmware?

I’m not able to create maps because my Yarbo needs a firmware update. It has been charging for 24 hours and I’ve had it connected to WiFi and, for part of the time, running off cellular. No updates either way. Also tried restarting the data center and machine.

I opened a ticket last night and spoke to someone from Yarbo support on the phone who asked me a few questions and told me I needed a firmware update. He followed up with an email saying the issue would be escalated. Which was great, but so far, nothing.

I just got the machine and it’s disappointing to see it just sitting in my yard doing nothing.

Does anyone know what the SLAs are for things like OTA updates? Is there a way to download the upload to a USB stick or something and manually update the firmware?

There is currently no manual way. The machine should literally auto update when it gets any sort of internet connection. The fact that it didn’t means that support has to intervene. Leave it online and charging and they will get it updated soon.

I have heard a rumor that holding the power button for 15 seconds will kick off an update. I cannot confirm if this works or not. Give it a shot and let me know if it does work for you. I don’t expect it will.

Couple of days ago I also received new core. Still waiting someone to manually update the unit. It sits on the charging pad. Wifi works and all seams to be well but Yarbo do not update itself.
I just tried to push the power button as suggested. Tried variations from 10-20 seconds. Didn’t help. Yarbo just restarted on each go.
So unfortunately nothing else to do then just wait someone from Yarbo to do it manually. Frustrating indeed.

Indeed, I can understand your frustration. They should hopefully get it updated soon. I would recommend forgetting your home wifi network from the core. It’s not needed and can cause you additional issues later with communications. As long as the Data Center (DC) is connected to your home internet router, if will provide the WiFi HaLow connection to the core and provide better coverage for your whole yard.

I am having the exact same issue. Ive tried everything to force a firmware update with no success. So far…this isn’t a good experience.

It is understandably frustrating that an IoT device at this price can’t do a routine update that a $50 IoT device can do seemlessly. So far opening a support ticket seems to be the only way to resolve the issue and, yes, it will take a few days for the process to start. Yarbo support is responsive once the ticket is initially opened and you won’t have to open another ticket for future updates. The software still has a lot of maturing to do but considering this was a Kickstarter project only a few years ago, they seem to be making progress and scaling well. Mammotion has a similar timeline since its kickstarter inception except support seems non-existent and unresponsive. Poor support will kill any brand but Yarbo seems to be handling support well, albeit it would be nice to not need support the moment you unbox it!
